Farsley Celtic

The Citadel, Throstle Nest, home of Farsley Celtic based in West Yorkshire and play their trade in the National League North. York City are the visitors today who need a win to cement their place in the play-offs whereas Farsley are fighting at the wrong end of the table… Both teams have something to fight for! And that is why this was the chosen game for me! Let’s go!

An early drive up the M1 to Leeds and now we go west towards Pudsey which sees me here at the ground in good time for the Newcastle Liverpool game! Big game for Liverpool this! £13 to get into the Citadel! Sublime! It’s a massive win for Liverpool!!! I’m so glad that Jurgen is a red!!

Gary has arrived!! And now the build-up to this game begins as the York fans bang that drum!! “We are York we are York we are York!!” Out come the teams! It’s time! A poor performance from York last time I saw them 2 weeks ago, will today be any different?

Kick Off! 2 minutes in and Farsley come forward, Jacob Gratton has it on the edge of the box, he goes for the curler… And he’s got it… But no! The flag is up for an Offside in the build-up… No goal! York fans are relieved! 2 minutes later and York have a corner which can only mean one thing! “HI HO CITY! CITY HI HO!” In it comes… Maxim Kouogun with the header… Wide!

Farsley are the better team so far in the game and are taking the game to York! 24 minutes on the clock and York have the ball in the Farsley half, it’s played to Akil Wright, he’s 25 yards out and he goes for goal… Good parry there by the Farsley keeper!

28th minute and York have it on the left, it’s crossed in, it comes all the way to Kouhyar at the back post, he takes his time and shoots… Keeper saves again! 2 minutes later and York play down the right flank, it’s crossed in, it comes to Hancox at the back stick to head across goal… OOOH! Headed off the line and it needed to be there! Farsley clear the danger but it’s better from York!

43 minutes gone and Farsley have a throw-in on the left, it’s a long one into the box, it falls to Frank Mulhern who controls and shoots… Blocked! York get it away but not far as Farsley get it back and they play it into the middle… Last ditch defending from York again there and they clear again but only to a Farsley man, the shot comes in… Well wide! Goalless at the break here.

Second half, 51st minute and Farsley have a corner, in it comes… The header… What a save by Pete Jameson!! Just as me and Gary were talking about how good he is! Brilliant goalkeeping! 1 minute later and here come Farsley again, Mulhern has it from 25 yards out and he goes for goal… OH! Another good save by Jameson!! Tipped over and it’s a corner for Farsley, in it comes… York clear.

“It’s fun to stay at the Y-O-R-K! It’s fun to stay at the Y-O-R-K! You can watch the City! You can have a good meal! You can do whatever you feel!!” Now that is a chant I can get behind!!!

It’s another poor display from York here with misplaced passes and zero creativity which is not going down well with the travelling fans who are getting angrier as the game goes on… Some of them even referring to them as “Sh*ty!” Farsley looking more and more dangerous every time they come forward…

“York are going to win 1-0 here!” My prediction to Gary after last time I saw them. But will it be a right one? The game goes on and York can’t buy a goal here… 72 minutes on the clock and on comes John-Lewis for York… Pun intended!!

75 minutes now and York hit the ball forward, straight to the Farsley defence who hit it away… It’s rebounded off a Farsley man and it breaks for Clayton Donaldson who is free and he gets into the box on the left, he cuts in towards goal and he goes for the chip… Farsley get there to clear… That’s a goal surely!!! IT IS!! The assistant Referee has flagged and cue bedlam in the away end! Beers flying! Pyros smoking! Fans screaming! YORK CITY HAVE TAKEN THE LEAD HERE!!!!! 0-1!!

York seem to have woken up now and are taking the game to Farsley! 86th minute and York play a ball forward, it falls to Kouhyar in the box on the right, he plays it across to Lenell John-Lewis… AND HE FINISHES!!! York fans go into delirium again!! They’ve bought a goal now!! And that should be that! 0-2!!

90th minute and York play the ball to John-Lewis, he plays it to Kouhyar and he shoots from the edge of the box… Saved! Play goes on… And that is that!! A massive win for York! But again, not the best of performances… But they won’t care!!

• Atmosphere: 7/10 – York fans once again absolutely fantastic! Very passionate fanbase! Drums and pyros galore! It was quiet in large parts of the game but when it wasn’t, it sure damn wasn’t!!
• The Ground: 6/10 – It’s a nice little setup! Maybe not quite for this level but I do like both stands and certainly the bar!! But it’s a good ground overall!
• Expense: 9/10 – Not the best of games but we certainly got some entertainment value in the end!
• Overall Experience: 8/10 – Great to see Gary once again and great to see another York win!
