St Joseph’s Rockware of Worksop Women

Rockware Sports Ground, home of St Joseph’s Rockware of Worksop based in Nottinghamshire and compete in the Central Midlands League. Better known as SJR Worksop for short and it is also home to the Women’s team who play in the East Midlands Regional Women’s League Division One North.

Today they face Grimsby Borough Ladies who need a win to secure 4th place, anything else and SJR Worksop can slip in who have a game in hand on Grimsby after today’s game. Now for the short journey from Shirebrook to Worksop which sees me parked up with 10 minutes to go before kick off! Free Entry into today’s game! Astounding!

Kick Off! A slow start here with both teams enjoying spells of possession. 12 minutes in and Worksop have a free kick from around 35 yards out, number 18 takes and shoots… Keeper saves and holds on to it. 2 minutes later and Worksop play forward again, a ball is played over the top to number 13 in the box on the right, she goes for goal on the volley… And she scores!! Brilliant strike!!! 1-0!!

22 minutes now and Grimsby have a corner, in it comes… It bounces around and falls to Grimsby’s number 11 who tries to hook it towards goal… But not enough and it’s wide! Grimsby are starting to take the game to Worksop now but will they find an equaliser?

37th minute and Grimsby come forward, a through ball to number 21 in the box and she gets to it with the keeper committed, she shoots… Good save by the Worksop keeper! 44 minutes now and Grimsby have a corner, in it comes… Worksop header away but Grimsby get it back into the box, it falls to number 15 who shoots… Blocked! It falls to number 20 to shoot… Worksop block again and they clear. At half time, Worksop lead 1-0.

Second half, a slow start once again… 61st minute and Worksop have the ball in midfield, a lovely worked passing move sees number 8 free on the right wing, she plays it to number 10 in the box on the right, she plays it across… But the keeper gets to it. 3 minutes later and Grimsby have it on the right wing, it’s played in, number 11 on the half volley… Just over! Very close there!

74th minute and Worksop play forward, a ball over the top to number 13 in the box on the right like the first goal, the keeper comes… Number 13 gets there first… But shoots wide. 2 minutes later and Worksop win a free kick on the edge of the box, number 10 steps up… And it’s a brilliant free kick!!! Right into the top corner!!! 2-0!!

79 minutes on the clock and grimsby come forward, it’s played to number 15 on the edge of the box, she puts it onto her right foot and she shoots… Straight at the keeper! 5 minutes later and Grimsby come again, it’s worked out to the left, it’s worked across the middle to number 11 on the right of the box to shoot… What a block that is again by the Worksop defence!! It’s a corner, in it comes… Cleared for another, in that one comes… Worksop clear.

87th minute and Worksop come forward down the right, a through ball is played across to number 7 who is in on goal, the keeper comes… But number 7 gets there first and rolls it in!! And that is game, set and match for Worksop!! 3-0!! Play goes on and Grimsby try and break the Worksop defence… But they ultimately fail!

• The Ground: 3.5/10 – It’s a basic little setup but it does have decent views around it especially from the top car park.
• Expense: 10/10 – Free game!!
• Overall Experience: 6/10 – A decent game and I’m happy I’ve ticked off the ground!
