Wombwell Town (Sunday)

Doveside Drive Playing Fields, home of Wombwell Town’s Sunday League team based in Darfield, Barnsley, South Yorkshire. Formerly known as Darfield United, it is a Barnsley Sunday League club and today they face Royston Pack Horse FC in a friendly.

The Merry Miller has found a double in june! The worst time of the year for football fans but Jack has worked his magic and we have games!! The first one being Wombwell Town (Sunday) vs Royston Pack Horse, let’s have it! The journey over to West Melton to pick up the Merry Miller and off we go to Doveside! 10 minutes to kick off and here we are!

Kick Off! Straight away and Wombwell come straight out of the blocks! It’s played to number 9 and he goes for goal from 25 yards out… What a save! Tipped over by the Royston keeper for a corner, in it comes… Cleared!

Wombwell are looking the better side so far here! 16th minute and Wombwell play forward, number 9 gets into the box… He’s brought down there… Penalty! Good decision! Definite for me! Number 9 will step up… And score!! 1-0! Wombwell lead!

26th minute and Wombwell have it down the left, it’s switched across to the right for number 20 who controls and shoots… Just wide! He went for the far corner and nearly found it!

Wombwell are looking the better team this half but are not closing this game out yet! 42 minutes on the clock and Royston’s keeper hits the ball long… Temper’s flaring! Royston’s number 13 and Wombwell’s number 9 are offering each other out in the car park… Not what you want to see in a friendly… They both are substituted off! Both players are lucky there for me! Could’ve been worse!

44 minutes now and Royston hit it long, keeper comes… Royston’s number 4 gets there first and rounds him… He gets his shot away… It’s cleared by the Wombwell defence! At half time it remains 1-0 to Wombwell.

Second half… It’s a poor game with little opportunities… 65th minute and Royston hit a long ball forward, number 17 gets onto it and he shoots… Keeper gets a hand to it and parries it away! Great to meet the Wombwell Town Chairman here today!

72nd minute and Royston play it forward, Wombwell’s number 5 gets to it first and plays it back to the keeper… But there’s not enough on the back pass and Royston’s number 17 gets there first… And he scores!! Good finish! 1-1!

80th minute and Wombwell are not looking as strong as they did first half… But here they come again, it’s played into the box… It’s flicked into the air, Wombwell’s number 11 gets onto it and heads towards goal… Just wide! Keeper stretched for it but it’s gone wide!

87th minute and Royston come forward down the left… They win a free kick in a crossing position, number 17 steps up and plays it in… ALL THE WAY IN!!! HE’S SCORED!! He meant that and why not! What a strike! 1-2!

Wombwell are pressing for the equaliser, will they get it? Into stoppage time now and Wombwell have a throw in on the left, it’s played in, the header at goal… Straight at the keeper! Wombwell continue to press… But Royston come out on top!

• The Ground: 3/10 – A decent pitch! Love the scenic views from one side and the houses view from one side too!!

• Overall Experience: 6/10 – Not the best of games but great to meet to Wombwell Town chairman!
