Kendal Town

Parkside Road, home of Kendal Town based in Cumbria and play their trade in Step 5 of the Non League Pyramid in the North West Counties League Premier Division. Nicknamed the “Mint Cakes” after the food itself originated in Kendal.

It’s a part of the country that has some nice grounds! Well from the photos from the ones I haven’t been to anyway… It’s Kendal Town vs Lower breck here today and I am setting off early to see the early kick off which is my beloved Mansfield Town vs Colchester United!

So across the Pennines onto the M60 off at the M61 and onto the M6 and off at Kendal. Across the road from the ground at Netherfield Cricket Club and Mansfield are a goal down… But they won’t lose and get a point from the game in the second half! I’ll take that! Now for today’s game.

£7 to get in here! Tasty! A quick try of a Kendal mint cake… Not too bad… Out come the teams! The rain is coming down but hopefully it won’t dampen the spirit of the game! Let’s play!

Kick Off! 14 minutes in and Kendal have a corner, in it comes… The header… Oooooh! Just over!

3 minutes later and Lower Breck have it in the Kendal half, 30 yards out and the shot comes in… Dipping… OH WHAT A GOAL!!!! EAT THAT!! Keeper flat footed and Lower Breck have the lead! 0-1!

36th minute and Kendal have the ball on the left, it’s crossed in, James Bailey with the header… AND IT’S THERE! Kendal are level! 1-1!

Lower Breck come forward looking to regain their lead but at half time it remains 1-1.

Second half, 48th minute and Lower Breck come forward, they get the ball out to the right and it’s crossed in, the header… Off the post… And it’s gone in! Lower Breck do regain their lead! 1-2!

54th minute and Kendal come forward now down the right, it’s played in low… It’s come off the Kendal man but the keeper collects… Couldn’t get the shot away!

4 minutes later and Lower Breck break from a Kendal attack and they’re in… SAVE! Brilliant goalkeeping and it’s a Lower Breck corner, in it comes… Cleared by Kendal.

Kendal are really pressing for the equaliser here! 66th minute and Kendal play a long throw into the box… It’s headed on… And again… OH! Was that a handball…? Yes says the Referee! Penalty! Lower Breck not happy, I thought it was a Penalty. Lynch to take for Kendal… SAVED! Oh Kendal…

Kendal throwing the kitchen sink at Lower Breck now as we head into stoppage time! 95th minute and it’s a corner for Kendal and the keeper is up! In comes the corner… It’s pinball in the box… Lower Breck get it away but it falls for a Kendal man to shoot… Good save!

Lower Breck have the ball in the Kendal half… And they hold on for the win!

• Atmosphere: 3/10 – A few boys in the stand made some noise but not too much here sadly.
• The Ground: 9/10 – Great ground! Picturesque, stands all around and an elevated terrace behind the near goal! Just wish there was something at the other end.
• Expense: 10/10 – £7 to get in and with the way the second half was played, I am happy with that!
• Overall Experience: 7/10 – More goals was all that was needed for me!
