Stone Close, Kiveton Park, home of Renishaw FC. Newly reformed as Renishaw FC after the breakdown of Renishaw Rangers and playing their home games in Kiveton Park just outside of Renishaw. 12th September 2020 and the new Central Midlands season begins today with the visit of Harworth Colliery.
Me and the Merry Miller in attendance for this game today. It sure is great to have football accessible for fans again even if it is just non-league for the time being. Arrival in the car park and then… My heart blown out of my chest!!! I hate being made jump! What on earth was that?? Oh right it’s only Jack, there has been a late goal in the game between Wycombe and Rotherham and I’m sure judging by that reaction you can guess which way it’s gone. He’s put the merry back in merry miller now! He’s happy!
£3 to watch this Central Midlands tie! Quality! First fans in the ground!! Beauty! No bar in the ground… There’s always something to spoil it but nevertheless a lovely view of the countryside from one end of the ground. A quick chat with the linesman before his time to warm up, who doesn’t love non-league football? The teams finishing up their warm ups on a side pitch next to the main one. I guess that’s why the main pitch is in great condition.
With Harworth fans now beginning to take up space in the stand, it was time for Kick Off! A bright start for Harworth who enjoyed some early possession. 10 minutes in and the ball threaded through… Flag up from the linesman… Debatable for me but not for the Harworth fans stood directly behind him. “LINO!! ARE YOU BLIND??” Never change non-league, but leave our mate alone Harworth fans!
Straight up the other end it’s a big chance for Renishaw here, No. 9 he’s one on one, round the keeper and… he’s taken it too far wide and the shot… Saved by Harworth’s keeper. A perfect example of the danger from Renishaw there.
It’s wave after wave of attacks for Harworth now you can only guess what will happen next. Right on half time now and Renishaw with the ball, played into the box and there’s no flag, No. 9 for Renishaw he’s in… Harworth can’t keep it out and it’s 1-0 to Renishaw! Against the run of play. Harworth fans not happy and would continue to be during half time as the score remained 1-0.
Second half! An early spell for Renishaw now, what’s the gaffer said at half time in their dressing room? 50 minutes gone now and Renishaw charging into the box, squared across goal, he has to score… It’s wide!! A massive opportunity there for Renishaw’s No. 7 to give them a surprise 2-0 lead.
Harworth are starting to come on strong again but this time getting considerably closer than their first half attempts, will they score this time around? 63 minutes gone and the Renishaw defence can’t hold on much longer surely, Harworth with the ball in the Renishaw box, passed across goal, It’s No. 15 for Harworth… There it is!! 1-1 and deservedly so!
Harworth continued to press and looked like going on to win. 72 minutes gone and Harworth come again. Edge of the box on the volley!! OFF THE BAR!! Goal kick. Renishaw have messed this up again and a free kick is given by the Referee. The free kick is delivered, Harworth winner headed across goal… And headed home!! It’s 2-1 Harworth and deservedly so.
Harworth continued to press, 85 minutes and a chance for Harworth… OFF THE POST!! Harworth would fail to make it 3 and the score remained 1-2.
FT: Renishaw 1-2 Harworth Colliery
