Teversal FC

The Teversal Grange Sports Ground, home of Teversal FC who were based just on the outskirts of Mansfield. This was a local derby for Shirebrook which would bring a big number of traveling fans and the match fell on Boxing day of 2012 so what better way to help the Christmas hangover, a local derby!!

You know what they say, all form goes out of the window in a derby and this was also not a happy place for Shirebrook who had a not so good record at Teversal. £4 to get into the ground, fantastic!! 3pm struck and the match kicked off. Shirebrook starting off as the better team making Teversal have to withstand some pressure from the Shirebrook attack. Teversal started to get into the game a little bit more and on 27 minutes had the ball down the left wing, the ball was crossed and it fell to the ex-Shirebrook man Rob Orton who steered the ball in off of the post and boos rang around the ground from the Shirebrook faithful aimed at their old number 10. Shirebrook continued to press but could not get the luck they needed in the final third of the pitch and the teams went in at half-time with the score at 1-0 to Teversal.

The Shirebrook fans gathered behind the goal they were attacking which happened to have 2 tesco trolley stands at that end, Who’s idea was it to have them at a football ground? I wouldn’t want to admit to that! Teversal applied some early pressure as the second half started but to no avail. Shirebrook had won a free kick on the edge of the area on 57 minutes. A rather flimsy looking Teversal wall gave Jack Barnett a light bulb above head moment. He struck the free kick through the wall, the keeper scrambled across his line but could not keep the ball out and it was 1-1!

Shirebrook looking the much better team now and a very much backs to the wall period for Teversal. The pressure continued and on 74 minutes, Barnett found himself with the ball in space around 30 yards from goal, why not Jack? He may have heard us and went for goal…… and he SCORED!!!!! EAT THAT!!! a goal of the season contender we had just witnessed, the ball sizzled in to the top corner, one of those goals where you say, “No Goalkeeper in the world would have saved that!”

Shirebrook continued to dominate the game but that all important third goal would not come. Shirebrook would begin to put the ball in the corner flag to run down the clock surely Shirebrook would go onto win this game now. The game was deep into stoppage time when the ball was hit long towards the Shirebrook penalty area, the ball was flicked on and fell to another ex-Shirebrook man in Mitchell Slawson who ran onto the loose ball… and found the net… right at the death and Shirebrook’s poor run at Teversal continued.

FT: Teversal 2-2 Shirebrook Town

Ratings

  • Atmosphere: 2/10 – Not much noise from any set of fans today, the Christmas hangover seemed to have defeated us all in that aspect.
  • The Ground: 3/10 – A little bit run down but the Tesco trolley stand was a big no no from me!
  • Expense: 10/10 – £4 to get in will always score a full 10 from me especially to see drama like what we had just witnessed.
  • Overall Experience: 5/10 – £4 to see 4 goals and plenty of drama will score high but unfortunately the ground wasn’t too good and the result had disheartened me.

20/40
