The Breyer Group Stadium, Brisbane Road, home of Leyton Orient based in East London and play their trade in League 2. Nicknamed the “O’s” as it’s in the name “Orient”. It’s been an interesting decade supporting this club! In 2014, this club was a Penalty Shootout away from being promoted into the Championship, they lost to Rotherham United sadly for them. One bad takeover later and 3 years pass by to see them relegated into the National League… But they weren’t there for long! They’re back in League 2 and stronger than ever!
It’s another away day with Mansfield Town for me, the Super Stag, Tom and Curtis today! An early start sees us at the ground for a 9am leave. 4 hours or so later and here we are in East London with a bit of time to kill before kick off. The Northcote Arms is calling us all and in we go. Time’s up and it’s time for the game. £8 to watch this League 2 tie! Smashing!
The atmosphere is building in the away end now as kick off looms! “Since I was young! I followed them! MTFC! The team for me!” And “Blue and Yellow barmy army!” And a new chant for me! “WAHEEEEEY! WAHOOOOO! WAHEEEY! WAHOOO! SUPER MANSFIELD!”
Kick Off! Both teams enjoying a fair share of possession so far but no real opportunities as of yet. “Come on Orient!” Orient fans giving it a little go now but the Mansfield fans and me are enjoying ourselves a lot more! “YELLOW AND BLUE ARMY!!”
17 minutes in and Mansfield win a free kick in the Orient half, whipped in, towards Rawson, headed across, Mansfield get there, played out wide to Ollie Hawkins who plays it across to Farrend Rawson… Keeper saves!
It’s been a poor first half to say the least with no other real chances to report… 36 minutes now and Mansfield have a corner, in it comes… Over everyone and out… Sums up the first half so far… “We love you Mansfield we do! Oh Mansfield we love you!” But the Mansfield fans are still going!
40th minute and it’s a throw in on the left wing for Orient, it’s a long throw into the box, flicked on to Drinan and he shoots… Deflected wide! Corner, whipped in… Over everyone but Orient retrieve on the left, played back to the edge of the box and whipped into the box… The flag is up! Offside in there! Free kick for Mansfield. At half time the score remained stalemate.
Second half, 49 minutes on the clock, Orient break forward from a Mansfield corner, they play out wide to the right, played through to Drinan and he’s got a sight of goal in the box and he goes for it… He’s put it over! Big chance!
“Yellow and Blue Army!!” Mansfield fans still going strong! There’s a tiger being thrown around the away end now… Heads up! Mickey Mouse is also going around… Fantastic! 57th minute and it’s a free kick for Orient on the edge of the box, Tom James steps up… Over!
61 minutes now and Orient are starting to pile on the pressure, they play a long ball forward, Orient win it and play it to Theo Archibald, he gets into the box on the left and he shoots… just wide!
2 minutes later and Orient break forward, played out to the right, crossed in low and here’s Tom James… Straight at the keeper. “Yellow and Blue army!” Still going from the Mansfield fans!
Leyton Orient starting to look the better of the 2 teams now and look the more likely to win it… 77th minute and Orient come down the right, crossed in low… Harry Smith misses it and it’s loose… Mansfield clear! Just in time there! “Yellow and Blue army!” Still going from the Mansfield fans! I’m out of breath… It’s been going for half an hour now! Sensational from the Mansfield fans today!!
84th minute and Mansfield play a ball out to the right for Tyrese Sinclair to chase, he’s brought down and Mansfield have a free kick… Oh dear! He’s kicked out there right in front of the assistant referee… Both sets of players are squaring off now… Sinclair’s off! He deserves that! Disgraceful from Sinclair you have to say… Free kick comes in… Headed away by Orient and they break… It comes to nothing and Mansfield clear.
87 minutes now and the game is heating up now after the Red Card. Orient play a ball out right, Tom James runs onto it, down he goes… “Dive!” Says the Referee! Yellow card for him! Orient fans not happy! Mansfield fans love it!
Into the 90th minute now, “Stand up for the Orient!” Orient retrieve the ball and play it back into the box, headed cross goal, headed at goal… Just wide! So close! 90+5 I make it now and Orient play a long ball into the box, headed down for Archibald! OOHHHH! What a save by Bishop! Mansfield clear the danger! What a save that was! The Referee blows for full time… 88 games without a 0-0 is over!

- Atmosphere: 7.5/10 – No bias but the Mansfield fans were incredible today! Non stop in the second half literally! Orient had a little go but Mansfield won the atmosphere battle today!
- The Ground: 6/10 – It’s an ok little ground, a fairly basic one for this level. A decent little backdrop of London from the away end as well.
- Expense: 9/10 – £8 is great for this level! For a 0-0 that game wasn’t too bad, it heated up as the game went on especially with the red card but a goal is what has cost it being full marks today.
- Overall Experience: 8/10 – I have to say that was the best 0-0 I’ve ever seen!! I had another great time with the Super Stag, Tom and Curtis and the atmosphere was fantastic! Really good to see some Leyton Orient fans clapping us at the final whistle too! Would have loved a goal though…
