Edlington Lane, home of Yorkshire Main based in Edlington, Doncaster, South Yorkshire and play in the Doncaster Senior League Premier Division. “Topliss is going on a Yorkshire Football tour! A Yorkshire Football tour! A Yorkshire Football tour! We’re going North! We’re Going South! We’re Going East! We’re Going West!” It’s the Doncaster Rovers Saturday Football League again for me and who better to go with than Jack, the Merry Miller!!
Operation: get to Wath upon Dearne which anyone around the area knows is a tough one to get to… Eventually I made it and met the Merry Miller and with half an hour to go until Kick Off, the bus arrives. “A return to Edlington please” “£25.50 please…” “Say what???” “That’s £4.80 please” are my ears really that small? Who says all bus drivers are miserable? We’ve got a good one today and he certainly saw the funny side! He got me there! Just in time for Kick Off and we’re here! Rossington Main Reserves the visitors to Yorkshire Main today!
Kick Off! A fairly even start to the game here. 19 minutes and Yorkshire have the ball in a good position, the shot comes in… Deflected… Saved on the line!! Rossington going up the other end here not wasting any time, they have the ball on the left hand side and here’s a cross, the shot… OFF THE BAR!!!! So close there for Rossington!
21 minutes gone and Rossington are in… the ball is squared to Joe Durrans who can walk it in! He does and it’s 0-1!! One minute later and Yorkshire have the ball on the left and the ball is played in to the box, a slip from the defender and it’s with Josh Street… HE SCORES!!!! 1-1!! Just like that!! Game on!!!
Rossington beginning to control this game here! 28 minutes and Rossington with the ball in the middle of the park, a long ball played forward towards Ben Clark, he’s beaten the keeper to the ball and he can walk it in… And has done!!! 1-2!!!
Rossington looking the real deal here! 32 minutes gone and Rossington have the ball again, a good passing move here, the ball is played to Ben Clark again!! HE SCORES!!! 1-3!!! It’s not looking good for Yorkshire Main here… Rossington continuing to show their dominance but the score at half time remained 1-3. the linesman talking to a fan as he walks off the pitch, non-league football ladies and gentleman!!
Second half, the game fizzling out with both teams having a fair share of possession but with no out and out attacks. 63 minutes gone and Rossington with a 1 2 pass and they’re in again… SAVE!! Still 1-3. 73 minutes gone and Rossington with the ball on the left, the cross comes in, a diving header… GOAL!!! The flag is up and it won’t count…
77 minutes on the clock and Yorkshire Main with the ball now, the ball is played to Josh Street who has a sight of goal… Just wide!! Big let off for Rossington there. 80 minutes and here come Yorkshire again, the ball in the box and a shot… Over! That would be the closest Yorkshire came to a second goal in the game unfortunately for them… Full time whistle goes and fans go onto the pitch to shake hands… Don’t mind if I do, photo opportunity incoming!

Ratings
- Atmosphere: 1/10 – Not any singing or chanting from fans today sadly.
- The Ground: 5.5/10 – For this level, this is a hidden gem!! One of the best in England for this level I would say!! Only a London team or a picturesque Lake District team at this level could better this I would say! Not all accessible but with the red and white posts and flags behind one goal, the ground has a unique feel and good character to it!!
- Expense: 10/10 – Free Entry for 4 goals! Need I say more!
- Overall Experience: 10/10 – Another fantastic day out! Can’t beat a good day out with one of your best friends! A great ground with friendly fans and plenty of goals!! Can’t argue with that!
26.5/40
