Sutton Rovers

Dunscroft Miners Welfare, former home of Hatfield Main but now the current home of Sutton Rovers based on the outskirts of Doncaster, South Yorkshire and play in the Central Midlands. “Hoppo & Topliss! Always find new grounds! Hoppo & Topliss! Always finding GOOOOAAAALLLS! Always finding GOOOOAAAALLLS! IT COULD BE!!!” Here we go again! This week, me and Jack, the Merry Miller as he’s known on here are headed for Sutton Rovers today!! Renishaw FC the opponents for Sutton Rovers today.

After a number of games were called off we decided that Sutton would be the best location and off we went! Ben the Blade got in touch and decided to join us for the game too!! The groundhoppers team is strong today!! Arrival in Doncaster station, next stop: Subway! “DA DA DA! MEATBALL MARINARA! DA DA DA! THERE ISN’T ANY LEFT…!” Damn it! Oh well looks like that can wait. On the train now to Hatfield & Stainforth to meet Ben the Blade and off to the ground we go!

Not a bad view from Hatfield & Stainforth Station!

£3 to watch this match! Super Duper!! Kick Off! A bright start for Sutton 1 minute in and they win a corner straight away. The corner kick comes in, it’s Callum Stockton with the header… It’s 1-0 to Sutton!!! WHAT A START!!!! Sutton still on top after the goal with Renishaw hardly coming out of their own half. 20 minutes in and Sutton with the ball again, a long ball is played forward, Stockton flicks on towards Adi Parker who’s in… He scores!!!!! 2-0! Renishaw are in trouble… 22 minutes gone and Sutton coming again, the ball is on the left hand side and is crossed in to the box towards Adi Parker again!!! It’s 3!!! Headed in from Adi Parker and you have to say on the balance of play, that should be game, set & match for Sutton.

29 minutes in and Sutton playing a long ball forward again, Stockton flicks on again to Adi Parker, is this the hat-trick…? No, he’s put it wide… Should have been 4. 31 minutes gone and Sutton have the ball at the back, the ball is played back to the Sutton keeper and he’s scuffed his clearance straight to Renishaw’s number 10 and he shoots… Over! Sutton living dangerously there.

Straight from the goal kick and Sutton are in again, Adi Parker with the ball in the Renishaw box and he squares it to Callum Stockton… 4-0!!! They’re all going to score at this rate… 41 minutes gone and Sutton have the ball in the middle of the park, the ball is played forward to Adi Parker, no flag here and he’s in and must score… He does and it’s 5!! Could this be the first double figure score line for this blog? Adi Parker with the hat-trick and the score remained at 5-0 for half time.

Second half, the game has slowed down with both teams having a fair share of possession with no real clear cut chances. 53 minutes gone and Renishaw are in here from the chipped through ball… Saved!! The game continued in slow fashion, maybe it won’t be the double figure score I believed it would be at half time. 74 minutes gone and Renishaw with the ball on the left and crossed in, here’s Renishaw’s number 10… GOAL… But no, the flag is up and it won’t count. The game failed to liven up and there would be no more goals this half.

FT: Sutton Rovers 5-0 Renishaw FC

  • The Ground: 5/10 – It’s a nice little ground for the level it is at!
  • Expense: 10/10 – £3 for 5 goals is a great value for money!!!
  • Overall Experience: 8.5/10 – Another great day out with great friends and also very nice to meet another groundhopper at the ground with plenty of stories to tell! The game was one second half goal and a bit of action away from a 10…
