Eccleshill United

The Mitton Group Stadium, home of Eccleshill United who played just on the outskirts of Bradford. 5th October 2014, the day before my 20th Birthday and this would be my first time watching Shirebrook since moving to Sheffield for University and I was hoping for an early birthday present.

A first and only visit to this ground for me and with Shirebrook winning 2 out of their last 3, me and the traveling faithful were reasonably optimistic for this one. £4 to get in here, wonderful! The Shirebrook flag was raised and the match kicked off! Me and the boot boys in fine voice from the off hoping to inspire the Shirebrook team to victory. A very poor half in all with very little chances and nothing to get fans out of their seats, more a game of keep possession and it looked like both teams would be happy with a point, they may as well have played first to reach 10 passes without losing possession wins… but that didn’t stop the singing from me and the Boot Boys. At half time the score was 0-0 but you knew that!

The second half began strongly for the home side as they began to ask questions of the Shirebrook defence, finally something happening! I should be careful what I wish for! 55 minutes on the clock, Austin Hart had the ball in the net for Eccleshill, 1-0 to the hosts. The goal sprung the visitors into life and now Shirebrook were starting to get a foot hold in the game. 20 minutes to go and an equalizer wasn’t too far away I thought and a minute later Shirebrook’s Danny Wiltshire was put through on goal, he ran in and SCORED!! 1-1! Precisely one minute after saying an equalizer wasn’t far away.

After predicting the equalizer and believing I was in good form of that, I predicted that Shirebrook would go on to win! The game became an end to end affair but no one could find the winner and no I’m not the best predictor of results.

FT: Eccleshill United 1-1 Shirebrook Town

Ratings

  • Atmosphere: 6/10 – Plenty of noise from the Shirebrook Boot Boys once again, but in all honesty, we’ve been louder…
  • The Ground: 5/10 – It’s a decent little ground, a good stand, straight down the middle for this one.
  • Expense: 8/10 – £4 I will not argue with in the slightest, but for the first half I can’t give 10, it had bore draw written all over it.
  • Overall Experience: 4/10 – It was an OK result but it wasn’t a day that would come to the front of my football memories in a hurry, 4 given.

23/40
