Primrose Hill, home of Blackwell Miners Welfare based in Derbyshire and play their trade in the Alfreton Sunday League. A former Saturday team who competed in the likes of the Central Midlands League and in the East Midlands Counties League most recently before they folded unfortunately… But they are back as a Sunday League side and play at the Saturday club’s former ground!! Let’s hope it’s a cracker! And let’s hope the visit of Old Bemrosians puts on a good show today! Me, the Merry Miller and Martin are watching this today!
Off to Alfreton I go! Taxi!! Here I am just in time for kick off! Free Entry here today! Miraculous! A slow start to this game so far with both teams enjoying the ball equally. 21 minutes in and Blackwell play forward, number 7 chases a through ball in the box, he gets it… But he shoots wide.
28 minutes now and Blackwell move forward, a big challenge there by Bemrosians number 18 and he and the Blackwell players are not happy… The Referee as got to stop this! Yellow Card for number 18 there! Free kick is taken by Blackwell… Bemrosians clear the danger.
Nothing much happening in the game at the moment sadly… 39th minute in the game and Blackwell have a corner, in it comes… Keeper stretches… He’s got a hand to it and it’s loose… It’s fired at goal… Off the line! Blackwell think it’s over but play goes on, it’s loose again and it comes to Blackwell’s number 6… It’s in now!!! No doubt about this one!! 1-0! Bemrosians are causing Blackwell problems as they are sliding into challenges pretty wildly! At half time the score remains 1-0.
Second half, a poor start to the half with no teams showing any real conviction in the final third. 56th minute and Blackwell play a ball into the middle from the left hand side, it comes for number 9, he brings it down and he shoots… Good save by the keeper!
62 minutes now and Blackwell come forward down the left, it’s crossed in, cleared but it comes back to Blackwell’s number 10, he gets forward to about 20 yards out and he shoots… Straight at the keeper! 68 minutes now and Bemrosians come forward now, a through ball to number 10 and he gets into the box and gets a sight of goal… He’s hit the post!! It’s loose and Bemrosians get it back, Blackwell clear for a corner, in it comes… Headed away by Blackwell.
72 minutes on the clock and Blackwell’s keeper plays it forward, a poor touch by the Bemrosians defender sees number 8 for Blackwell gain possession, he comes forward and plays it out wide to the right for number 9, he drives forward into the box and he goes for goal… It’s in off the post!!! 2-0!! Brilliant finish!! The game has evened out but has become feisty with Bemrosians getting a bit frustrated here as they would fail to break down Blackwell today.

- The Ground: 6/10 – It’s an Old School ground from the past! A great view of Derbyshire which has some lovely countryside I have to say! Accessible all the way around, a tea bar and 2 old school stands with an old school turnstile! It’s a hidden gem of the past!! Will it ever be a Saturday ground again one day?
- Expense: 10/10 – Free Entry for goals can only mean one thing!
- Overall Experience: 7.5/10 – A great time here and I’m glad I came! Great to see the Merry Miller again and Martin!! A good day all in all!
