It’s Friday again! There is a certain club in the Nottinghamshire Senior League who have regular Friday night home games with them having floodlights which happens to be Cotgrave FC and tonight they face Basford United Community. Got to take advantage of these Friday night grassroots games! Let’s ride!
Down the M1, through Mansfield, past Ravenshead, onto the A46 and into the ground with just under 20 minutes till kick off. Free Entry to this game! You Beauty! Out come the teams! It’s the Nottinghamshire Senior League… AND IT’S LIVE… On Grassroots TV!!
Kick Off! 5 minutes in and Basford play a long ball to number 7 on the left running into the box, he shoots… Saved! Good goalkeeping there!
13th minute… Unlucky for some! Cotgrave play the ball forward, it’s poorly dealt with and number 9 will get onto it and he gets into the box on the left, he shoots… Saved… And over on to the roof of the net. Corner, in it comes… Cleared by Basford.
25 minutes now and Cotgrave play down the left side, it’s crossed in, number 2 with the header… OH HE’S HIT THE POST! He’ll get it back… He’s miss hit it and Basford get it away. So close there for Cotgrave!
2 minutes later and Basford play it through to number 10 who’s in behind here… He’s in… SAVED… And the keeper claims it! Big chance there for Basford!
39 minutes on the watch and Cotgrave come forward, it’s poked through to number 9 in the box on the left, he gets his shot away… Side netting! It did take a deflection on the way and it will be a corner, in it comes… Cleared by Basford.
1 minute later and Basford charge down the right, it’s played in low for NUMBER 10… OH WHAT A SAVE!! Brilliant goalkeeping there to stop what looked like a certain goal! It is a corner and in it comes… It falls for Basford… But the keeper claims.
Play goes on… An awful lot of stoppage time here at the end of the first half but for what reason? Basford have a free kick in the Cotgrave half, it’s lumped into the box, it’s headed across goal for number 4 to hook towards goal… OFF THE LINE!!
Play goes on… And it is finally half time with the score at 0-0… 10 minutes added time there I make it… But thankfully it’s Friday and not Tuesday or Wednesday! A good catch up with Mr Grassroots TV and out come the players for the second half now so back to work for him!
Second half, 47th minute and Cotgrave play it back to the keeper to hit it forward…… OH NO! It’s hit Basford’s number 10 and it’s fallen perfectly for him to walk it in… And he has done! Basford have the lead from the most unlikely source! 0-1!
1 minute later and Cotgrave play it forward, they get there with the keeper committed… He blocks it but was it by a hand…? The linesman has flagged… Uh oh! The Referee goes over to his assistant……… Yellow Card for the keeper… Shouldn’t it be a Red there? It is a free kick on the right just outside the box for Cotgrave and in it comes… It’s loose… Basford get there to clear… OH IT’S GONE IN!! The attempted clearance has come off the back of Cotgrave’s number 9 and Cotgrave have some good fortune after some bad luck just before! 1-1!
53 minutes now and Cotgrave play a long ball over the top for number 9 to chase, he goes for the lob with the keeper in no man’s land… Side netting! So close!
64th minute and Cotgrave break out in their own half… They win a free kick and number 10 for Basford has kicked the ball away… He’s already been booked… He’s off! Basford are down to 10 men…
69th minute and Cotgrave’s number 9 is away down the left and he charges at goal… he’s brought down there! Was the Basford man the last man there? Cotgrave certainly think so! It’s a Yellow Card for Basford’s number 4! Lucky? Number 8 goes for goal from the free kick for Cotgrave… Oooooh! Just over!
82 minutes gone and Basford’s number 11 has it on the right and he drives forward, he cuts inside and shoots from the edge of the box… Good save! Corner, in it comes… Cotgrave clear!
“You lot a disgusting! The lot err ya!” A Basford fan not happy with the Cotgrave bench… Both benches have been giving it as good as they can but I don’t think they’ve been out of order personally… She should try junior football! A few Cotgrave fans see the funny side!
87th minute and Cotgrave play down the right, number 10 has it and he charges into the box, he’s in… AND HE SCORES!!! COTGRAVE HAVE THE LEAD!! AND THEY LOVE IT!! “Disgusting!” The Cotgrave’s take on that finish! 2-1!
Can Basford find an equaliser here? They are throwing the kitchen sink at Cotgrave now! Play goes on… The Referee is repeatedly checking his watch… Cotgrave are screaming for the final whistle! But here come Cotgrave and number 9 is played in… And he dinks the keeper and finds the net… But no the flag is up! It won’t count! Here come Basford now… Cotgrave clear… That’s it! Cotgrave seal the deal!! Tensions between the management teams at the end… Oh non league!

- Atmosphere: 2/10 – A very respectable crowd here tonight for this level! No chanting but good banter and spirits especially at the end!
- The Ground: 4.5/10 – Not too shabby! It has a little clubhouse and floodlights. I’d love them to put in a little stand somewhere!
- Expense: 10/10 – £0!
- Overall Experience: 7.5/10 – Great to see Mr Grassroots TV here tonight and to meet the Cotgrave management team briefly during the game! A very good game here tonight as well! Who doesn’t love a bit of late drama?!
