The FA Cup is back! It’s Chesham United at home for Farnham Town with Chesham 2 leagues higher than their opponents today, will the magic of the cup strike today? Both teams with 100% records in their league campaigns so far which promises to be a tasty tie!
It wouldn’t be an FA Cup game without Stefan who has picked this game for us both so for me it’s onto the M1, to the M40 and onto the M25…… And true to form, it’s a slow one… Eventually to the M3 and into Farnham and parked in Waitrose in The Hart. £5 for parking and now on foot.
£8 to get in for this FA Cup tie… And the card machine is down… Into the clubhouse and… There he is! Mr FA Cup himself! Stefan with a beer of course! Into the ground we go!
The atmosphere is already building behind the top goal here! “Da da dadada dadadada Farnham!” The teams are ready! The FA Cup is ready to progress! Step 3 vs Step 5! Let’s see some magic!
Kick Off! Chesham showing the difference between the 2 teams so far and are passing the ball around really well! 10 minutes in and Farnham come forward, Harry Cooksley shoots from 25 yards… Keeper saves and holds!
21 minutes now and Chesham are starting to take control of this tie! They get into the box on the left and it’s played across… And it’s headed in!!! It’s Josh Allen with the header and Chesham deservedly in front you have to say! 0-1!
29th minute and here come Chesham again, they have it down the left and here comes the cross… Uh-oh! It’s fallen nicely for Chesham and here’s Ricardo De-Niro German… It’s 2!!! Brilliant finish and Chesham are cruising here! 0-2!
Chesham continue to dominate this tie with Farnham looking to break but with nothing much in the final third. At half time it remains 0-2.
Second half, a great start to the second half by Farnham! 48 minutes on the clock and they get it into the Chesham box, the shot… “HANDBALL!” Referee waves it away! Chesham get it clear for a corner but that was handball for me! Farnham unlucky there! In comes the corner… Chesham clear.
57th minute and Farnham come again, it’s played in from the left… it’s headed back across from the back post and headed at goal… GOOD SAVE! Chesham hit it away but only to Liddle who volleys first TIME… Straight at the keeper! So close!
80 minutes now and Farnham continue to press, they have it down the left and measure a cross, it comes to Owen Dean at the back post who controls and he’ll shoot… AND HE SCORES!!! Farnham are back in this!! 1-2!
Into stoppage time and Farnham press and press… Chesham look dangerous on the break… Can Farnham find the equaliser…? No! Chesham hold on for the win! A show of respect to their team from the Farnham fans for their efforts in the meantime!

- Atmosphere: 6/10 – Pretty good from the Farnham faithful! The drum was banging for the most of the game and the fans gave it a good go to rally behind their team!
- The Ground: 7/10 – Very unique! Love the elevated view from behind the top goal and the stands are very good! Would love to see something at the other end of the ground though.
- Expense: 8/10 – £50 odd on fuel and £8 to get in, not bad!
- Overall Experience: 9/10 – Great to see Stefan as always and the friendly Chesham fan stood next to us! Would’ve loved to have seen Farnham equalise though!
