Norton Playing Fields, Warminster Road, home of Intake Old Boys based in Sheffield, South Yorkshire and play in the Blades Super Draw Sunday League Division One. A rare Sunday League game for me today but a special one as I have been invited down by my work colleague, Jack Heald who plays for Intake. Let’s hope he and the team plays well for the visit of Brinsworth Phoenix today!
Literally 10 minutes down the road and here I am! Over to the middle top pitch I go! Free Entry for this game! Easy! 11am and off we go!
Kick Off! 2 minutes in and Intake have a corner, in it comes… Dan White with the header… Over! It could have been so much more… And he knows it! Intake have started brightly in this game and taking the game to Brinsworth but Intake must beware of the chipped ball over the top which Brinsworth are getting in behind from.
16 minutes now and Brinsworth come forward, it’s played through to number 9 who’s onside and he’s through, he gets to the keeper’s side and shoots… OH! Brilliant sliding block from Shaun Garwell!! It’s a corner it nearly was so much more! In comes the corner… Cleared for another corner, in that one comes… Cleared this time.
27th minute and Brinsworth play that chipped through ball to number 9 who’s got a run at goal here… But he’s Offside! He’s not happy and he’s kicked the ball away in frustration… A few words there at the Referee and he’s not happy… He’s in the Sin Bin! Dissent there I’m guessing but Brinsworth are down to 10 men for 10 minutes now…
2 minutes later and Intake play forward down the left side, it’s played to Callum Congreave, he cuts inside and he goes for goal… OH! It’s gone in… The keeper went with his legs and it goes in off his leg and Intake have the lead! The keeper has to do better there! 1-0!
37th minute and number 9 is back on for Brinsworth and he’s played through with a chipped ball, he sees the keeper off his line and he goes for the lob… Just wide. 42 minutes on the clock and Brinsworth play a ball to number 9, he hooks it through to number 6 who charges into the box, he shoots… Keeper tips it over for a corner, in it comes… Keeper claims it. At half time the score remains 1-0 to Intake.
Second half, 51st minute and Brinsworth play the chipped through ball to number 9 again, he gets into the box, he cuts inside and shoots… Good save by the keeper! He still has it… He can’t get his shot away and Intake clear the danger. 1 minute later up the other end and Intake have a throw in on the left, it’s a long throw into the box, it’s fallen to Julian Lawrence in the six yard box, surely! He’s played it to Callum Congreave… And he puts it away!! 2-0!! Intake have daylight… Although it’s gone in and it’s raining now…
57th minute and Intake come forward again, Jack Heald has the ball about 30 yards out, no movement for him to pass to so he goes for goal… Close! The keeper gets it into his grasp but he had to move back towards the goal line there! Would love a goal for Heald today!!
66th minute and Intake play forward, Jack Heald plays it to Pat O’Brien in the box and he shoots… The keeper saves it! 78 minutes now and can Brinsworth mount a fight back here? They have a corner which is delivered… Intake head away and now they break forward, it’s worked out to the left for Reece Robinson who gets into the box on the left, he goes for the far corner… And he gets it!! In off the post!! And that should seal the points for Intake!! 3-0!!
3 minutes later and Brinsworth have another corner, in it comes… Intake clear again and now they break again, it’s played through and on a plate for Pat O’Brien!! He scores this time!! Sucker Punch number 2 for Brinsworth! Just like the third goal! And it’s 4-0!!
89th minute and Brinsworth come forward down the left, it’s played across the middle for number 10 who shoots first time… He’s got it!! They have got their consolation! 4-1!! Play goes on and the Referee blows for full time one minute later! Job done for Intake!!

- Atmosphere: 1/10 – No crowd in hardly today and no noise sadly.
- The Ground: 4/10 – Very good pitches they have here at Warminster! No stands unfortunately but it does have a very good view of Sheffield at the right angle!!
- Expense: 10/10 – A free game is always a 10!!!
- Overall Experience: 8/10 – A big thank you to Jack Heald for making this possible!! A decent game of football here today but the Intake boys made it for me today! A very nice set of lads along with the manager who made me feel very welcome at the game today! All the best to them for the rest of the season!! I certainly would have loved a Jack Heald goal today though…
