The Fieldings, home of Mansfield Hosiery Mills based in Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire and play their trade in the Central Midlands League. This ground is the former home of Sutton Town who have had 2 spells as a club. They folded in 1997 and re-formed in 2007 but sadly folded again in 2014… The club were previously members of the Northern Counties East League and the East Midlands Counties League. Will we ever see the club reform one day?
My third game in 3 days!! And I’m not finished there!!! Pre-season has been good for me so far so lets hope it continues tonight for the visit of Cromford & Wirksworth Town!! Free entry to this one tonight! Sublime!
Kick Off! Both teams having a fair share of the ball so far but no real threat from either team in the final third but Cromford & Wirksworth looking just the more threatening. 17 minutes in and Cromford & Wirksworth play a long diagonal ball to the left wing, number 11 gets onto it, he comes inside and gets to the edge of the box and he goes for goal… Keeper saves comfortably.
It’s a poor game I have to say with both teams offering little… Please don’t be 0-0! 29th minute and Cromford & Wirksworth come down the left, number 8 gets into the box, he lofts it up for number 4 on the edge of the box and he goes for the volley first time… Good stretching save by the keeper there!! It’s a corner for Cromford & Wirksworth, in it comes… Mansfield clear.
Cromford & Wirksworth are looking good in the game now, but are struggling in the final third… Just shoot!!! 39 minutes on the clock and Mansfield come forward, number 2 has the ball on the left, he drives forward, he plays a 1-2 with number 19 and he gets into the box, he goes for goal… HE SCORES!!!! 1-0!!! He beats the keeper at the near post and it’s harsh on Cromford & Wirksworth who have looked the better side the more the half has gone on.
42 minutes now and Cromford & Wirksworth have a corner, in it comes… Number 7 at the near post… Keeper saves! At half time the score remained 1-0… And against the run of play I have to say!
Second half, 48 minutes on the clock and Cromford & Wirksworth come forward down the right, in comes the low cross… The keeper dives for it… It comes to Cromford & Wirksworth’s number 7… he couldn’t miss!! He smashes it home from point blank and it’s 1-1!!
Mansfield starting to come into the game a bit more now but Cromford & Wirksworth still look threatening. 58 minutes now and Mansfield play a long ball forward, the Cromford & Wirksworth defence have been wrong footed here and Mansfield’s number 19 runs onto it and he’s through on goal with plenty of time, he shoots… Good save by the keeper!! Cromford & Wirksworth clear.
On the hour mark now and Mansfield come down the right, it’s crossed in, number 19 gets up… And he heads home!!! It’s 2-1 to Mansfield Hosiery Mills!! Can Cromford & Wirksworth respond?
79th minute and Cromford & Wirksworth have a free kick around 25 yards out, number 10 steps up and he shoots… It’s just wide!! Cromford & Wirksworth are taking the game to Mansfield but have struggled in the final third and that has cost them big tonight…

- The Ground: 4/10 – It’s a fairly standard ground, the stand behind the goal is good and it does have a bit of character with the old Sutton Town club colours around the gates to the pitch.
- Expense: 10/10 – Free entry for 3 goals! Thank you!
- Overall Experience: 4/10 – Not the best game sadly but it was great to meet another club hopper around this area named Peter!
