The Welfare Ground, home of Nostell Miners Welfare based just outside of Wakefield, West Yorkshire. One last game before the imminent national lockdown for a month, let’s hope it’s a cracker! Parkgate FC the visitors tonight who in their last 6 home games have seen 38 goals!! Surely this one won’t be 0-0. Me, the Merry Miller and his friend Pete in attendance for this one.
£5 to watch this NCEL clash! Sensational! The Nostell goalkeeper out early after the warm up and talking to me and the Merry Miller about the clubs in the league and past stories, imagine not liking non league football?
Kick Off! I wonder what commentators Bob and Bob from the 2001 film ‘Mean Machine’ would have to say about the start to this game? “Looks like there could be plenty of goals in this one Bob!” “You can say that again”, “Looks like there could be plenty of goals in this one Bob!” “Never mind Bob…” Something like that I’d say.
17 minutes gone and Nostell with the ball, played to Alex Haigh on the right and he drives into the box, played across goal… AND IN!! Amir Berchil is there to tap in from point blank. 1-0! Still plenty of chances for both sides but Nostell still looking the more threatening. 23 minutes gone and here come Nostell again. the ball on the left now with Brandon Hughes-Miller who cuts inside 25 yards out and shoots… Deflected… OH IT’S GONE IN!!! What a goal that is!!! Top bins!!
Nostell starting to dominate the play now with Parkgate looking very shaky at the back. 44 minutes gone and Harvey Walker with the ball for Nostell, played forward to Harvey Booth, he shoots… Just wide! Nearly 3 but the score at half time stayed at 2-0.
Second Half, Fireworks continuing to surface around the ground giving us all a free show!! And I certainly wasn’t complaining!! Parkgate coming straight out of the blocks and looking to get back into this game. 53 minutes gone and a chance for Parkgate, Freddie Tracey with the ball driving at goal and the shot comes in… Saved but only to Zak Khalifa! Surely… OH HE’S MISSED!!! Should have scored easy with the goal gaping but he’s blazed it into orbit. It’s a good thing there’s trees behind that goal or else that would have been hit by a firework for sure!
Parkgate continuing to dominate possession and looking a good bet to get the next goal should there be another goal. 69 minutes gone and Nostell lump the ball up field, flick on, Amir Berchil has broken free and bares down on goal!! He’s scored!!! 3-0!! Against the run of play but that’s football…
Nostell began to take charge of play once again with that third goal. 84 minutes gone and here they come again, Harvey Booth with the ball and he plays it through to Ash Austin, no flag here and he’s in! Around the keeper… It’s 4!! And that is game, set and match to Nostell!!
FT: Nostell Miners Welfare 4-0 Parkgate FC
Ratings
- Atmosphere: 2.5/10 – The crowd made a bit of noise but not much sadly.
- The Ground: 6/10 – It’s a nice ground and I am a fan! A nice little bar with the stand at a good vantage point with access all around the ground. The Merry Miller described it as “Quirky” and I certainly agree!
- Expense: 10/10 – Again £5 is a price I’ll always love to pay! Especially with goals!
- Overall Experience: 10/10 – I really enjoyed the game and meeting other ground hoppers with good stories to tell and the staff at the ground were really welcoming and friendly! Can’t ask for much more than that!
