Palterton Miners Welfare, home of Palterton Sporting Club based in Derbyshire and play their trade in the Chesterfield Sunday League Division Three.
Another Sunday game in a village just a stone throw away from where I grew up. Palterton Sporting Club vs Grassmoor Sports, if it is to be as good as Doe Lea then I am in for a treat!
The short journey from Sheffield sees me here with 5 minutes to go before kick off parked just behind the goal… I hope I’m not making a mistake here!
Kick Off! 9 minutes in and Grassmoor play down the left, crossed in, number 9 free header… He’s got the header wrong and it’s gone the wrong way.
17th minute and Palterton come forward down the left with number 14, he crosses, number 10 with the header… OH! Just wide! Big chance from six yards there! It should be 1-0!
25 minutes on the watch and Palterton come forward down the left with number 11 who drives into the box, he plays it to number 14 coming in… Shot blocked and it comes back to 11… And he finishes!! 1-0! Grassmoor furious as a player was down injured in the build up! Number 14 for Grassmoor is walking off… He’s been sin binned for dissent for 10 minutes.
3 minutes later and Grassmoor hit it long, number 2 for Palterton gets a head to it and the keeper is scrambling for it… He gets there! Brilliant save! Corner taken short… Palterton clear.
32 minutes now and Grassmoor hit the ball long for number 9 to chase, keeper comes out of his box… Uh-oh! It’s over his head and number 9 is there… He finishes! It’s 1-1! Poor from the keeper there!
41 minutes gone and Palterton come forward, number 4 drives forward and gets it back after a 1-2, he shoots from outside the box… Keeper parries and Grassmoor clear.
2 minutes later and Palterton play it through to number 14 and he’s in, he’s around the keeper and… He’s missed! WOW! But wait… The Referee has given a free kick outside the box for a trip just before he rounded the keeper… Lucky! Number 14 takes… Blocked and Grassmoor eventually clear. At half time the score remains 1-1.
Second half, 54th minute and Grassmoor come forward, number 9 receives the ball and he drives at goal, he shoots… Over! Big chance there!
62 minutes and Grassmoor have a throw in on the right, it’s a long one, number 9 goes for the volley… OH FANTASTIC!! What a finish! Grassmoor lead here! 1-2!
68th minute and Palterton charge down the right with number 11, he gets into the box and plays it across to number 8 who takes a touch and shoots… Deflected… And in!! Palterton equalise! 2-2!
2 minutes later and Palterton play it forward, it comes to number 14 in the box on the left and he turns and shoots… OH! So close! Just wide!
79 minutes now and Palterton play forward, it’s played to number 3 in the box on the right, he shoots… Tipped onto the bar! Corner, in it comes… Cleared in the air, number 14 gets there and heads it across to number 5… OH! He’s missed! What a chance!
85 minutes played and Grassmoor play it forward to number 9 in the box on the right, he gets a shot away… Vital hand there from the keeper! Palterton hit it away.
Into stoppage time now and Palterton play it forward, number 14 has it in the box on the left, he shoots… HE’S GOT IT!!! PALTERTON HAVE SNATCHED IT SURELY!!! Right at the death!! The Palterton bench goes crazy!! 3-2!!
Grassmoor press for the equaliser… But it’s Palterton’s day!
