As much as I am against clubs moving home grounds, some of the moves have been successful for clubs! But some of them haven’t. There are many clubs out there that are planning to move grounds and I can’t help but think that they look fantastic and how I’d like to go there for a match one day!! I have picked 10 grounds that are being planned/under construction or in some cases, just opened that I am really intrigued by. True to form I will also rate these grounds using 2 ratings. I will use the ground rating I use for Groundhops and I will rate out of 10 whether it will be a good move for the club with 1 being bad and 10 being fantastic!!
10) York Community Stadium
York Community Stadium, the future home of York City. It has been in the pipeline for years but York City’s time at Bootham Crescent is finally coming to a close and the club will be moving out of the city centre to nearby Huntington to share a ground with York Knights Rugby Club. There has been a number of delays but it’s looking like finally the club will be moving towards the end of 2020 marking the end of the club’s stay at Bootham Crescent. I am looking enough to have visited Bootham Crescent and rated that experience quite highly! Bootham Crescent will become a housing estate…
Ratings
- The Ground: 7.5/10 – It looks a nice ground and definitely fit for the Football League at first glance!
- Good Move?: 5/10 – I’m hung on this one. Bootham Crescent is really run down and a move is logical with that perspective, but moving out of the city centre is a no go for me!! There is also not a huge capacity increase questioning the logic of the move but the ground does look like a nice facility! I’m half and half on this one.

9) The Stadium for Cornwall
The Stadium for Cornwall, the future home of Truro City. This has been talked about in Cornwall for years and years but at last it looks like Cornwall might finally be getting it’s stadium. This will be a ground share between Truro City and Cornish Pirates Rugby Club. Could this be the development that sees Cornwall have a Football League club? Truro being the most successful football club in Cornwall are currently at Step 3 in the non league pyramid and knocking on the door of Step 2 in recent times. An away day trip to Cornwall would certainly appeal to some fans especially me!! Except for the journey of course…
Ratings
- The Ground: 7.5/10 – The designs look very nice and with the modern times!!
- Good Move?: 9/10 – Could this be the development that sees Cornwall have a Football League club? Yes I think it would be! This would give the people and youth players of Cornwall a proper team to follow and see their young talent stay there and not move to the likes of Plymouth or Exeter. I certainly hope this move happens!

8) Eco Park
Eco Park, the future home of Forest Green Rovers. A stadium made entirely from wood! Forest Green plan to move in to what could be the most eco friendly ground on the planet!! The plans for the ground were approved earlier this year so this could be happening sooner rather than later. I have not visited their current ground The New Lawn so I’d better get a move on…
Ratings
- The Ground: 8/10 – I have to say from the designs, it looks fantastic! I really hope the club pulls this one off!!
- Good Move?: 7/10 – Overall, I would say this would be a good move as this would give the club a new identity as well as an increased capacity.
15/20
7) Power Court
Power Court, the future home of Luton Town. Luton have been up and down in the last 30 years and are now starting to get back to where they belong. Kenilworth Road has been home to them since 1905 and with the club currently in the Championship, the club may need extra funds to stay there.
Ratings
- The Ground: 8/10 – From the design pictures, it looks like a huge upgrade from Kenilworth Road!
- Good Move?: 8/10 – The extra capacity will definitely go in the club’s favour and it certainly looks a good ground. It would be a shame to see the back of Kenilworth Road as grounds such as this are a dying breed in the game…
16/20
6) Miami Freedom Park
Miami Freedom Park, the future home of Inter Miami. David Beckham’s football franchise is finally here and currently playing their home games outside of Miami in Fort Lauderdale. The club are planning a new 25,000 capacity stadium in Miami and it’s looking increasingly likely that this will be done in the next few years. I have been lucky enough to visit Miami in the past and would one day love to return and hopefully watch this team!!
Ratings
- The Ground: 10/10 – The design photos look simply incredible!! A unique facility!
- Good Move? 10/10 – Moving into Miami is only a good thing! No criticisms of this move whatsoever!
20/20!
5) Brentford Community Stadium
Brentford Community Stadium, the new home of Brentford FC. Brentford have been knocking on the door of the Premier League for the last few years and last season, they fell at the final hurdle… A new bigger ground will give them extra funds to finally get them over the line! Could it happen at last?
Ratings
- The Ground: 7/10 – It looks a good ground and definitely an upgrade from Griffin Park but will it regenerate it’s atmosphere?
- Good Move?: 7/10 – It looks a lot more like a Premier League ground but grounds like Griffin Park are dying out. I think it will be a good move overall.
14/20
4) Plough Lane
Plough Lane, the new home of AFC Wimbledon. A lot of things of happened since the old Wimbledon moved out of the old ground in 1991. Ground sharing with Crystal Palace, moving to Milton Keynes and renaming the old club, starting Wimbledon again and saving to build a new ground on the same street just yards away from the old site. It’s been a roller coaster of a ride for Wimbledon fans but at last they can finally play where the old Wimbledon first started and moved up the leagues!
Ratings
- The Ground: 7.5/10 – It looks a lovely ground and fits in well in today’s modern grounds.
- Good Move?: 10/10 – I would give 11/10 if I could!! This is the move the fans have been waiting for after losing their old club and it’s great to see the club have it’s identity back!
17.5/20
3) Nuovo Stadio Milano
Nuovo Stadio Milano, the future home of AC Milan and Inter Milan. Both club’s groundshare of the San Siro looks like it’s actually coming to an end to build a new stadium for both teams to share. There have been 2 different designs put forward for this with one definitive design not yet being decided on. One of those new designs will be built next to the San Siro before it gets demolished.
Ratings
- The Ground: 9/10 – Both grounds look fantastic and I am sure they will be one of the best in the world at the time.
- Good Move?: 3/10 – As much as clubs need to move with the times, the San Siro will be a sad loss to the world of football with so much history being lost… I don’t think this will be a good move. I hope I get to see the San Siro before it’s gone…
12/20
2) Stadio Della Roma
Stadio Della Roma, the future home of AS Roma. This has been a long saga but it looks like the club could finally be getting closer to a stadium of their own. The club has played their home games at the Stadio Olimpico since 1953 sharing with arch rivals Lazio and now plans to build a stadium for themselves.
Ratings
- The Ground: 10/10 – The design pictures look fantastic and also built to look like the famous Collisseum!
- Good Move?: 9/10 – A good move that will give the club a proper identity I believe! It will be a shame to see them leave the Stadio Olimpico after all these years though…
19/20
- Bramley-Moore Dock Stadium
Bramley-Moore Dock Stadium, the future home of Everton FC. Everton have played at Goodison Park since 1892 and are looking to push the club onto the next level. The club’s move will see them with an increased capacity and move outside of the district of Everton. Goodison Park will become a housing estate…
Ratings
- The Ground: 10/10 – I think this ground will look fantastic especially being at the docks!!
- Good Move?: 4.5/10 – As a Liverpool fan it is easy for me to criticise Everton for anything, but I’m not so sure about this move. Goodison has a lot of history and will be a sad loss to football and moving out of Everton is not a good idea in my opinion. There are positives, an increased capacity will mean more money for the club and the ground will be modern and picturesque from the docks but overall I think this could be a bad move.
