Treaty United

Markets Field, home of Treaty United based in Limerick, Munster, Republic of Ireland and play their trade in the League of Ireland First Division. Nicknamed the “Shannonsiders” and “Limerick Treaty” and were formerly known by names such as: Limerick FC, Limerick United, Limerick City and Limerick 37 before folding and reforming as Treaty United in 2020 based on the old Treaty of Limerick from many years ago.

So I’ve visited Dublin many times now and I believe it’s time to visit somewhere else in Ireland. After much deliberation, Limerick is the chosen destination for Treaty United vs Wexford FC which could proves significant for both teams in their respective play-off hopes.

So from Stansted Airport to Shannon Airport and into Limerick, time for a Guinness! Flannery’s, Limerick, CHECK! Slattery’s, CHECK! Ant & Dec’s bar… What a name and what a friendly bar this is with a real community feel! Treated like a VIP in there today as I get an Education into Hurling! Along with a few free Guinness’.

“Another Irish City

And it seems fairly pretty

A bit similar to Dublin

And I hope the football later is bubblin

… Get me a Guinness…”

Could be better with these Limericks…

Time rolls on and it’s now time for the game! €12 for this tie! Cheap as chips! Out come the teams! Play-offs are the focus for this one! Save the FAI Cup till later lads, but where are the Ultras…?

Kick Off! A slow start to this game… And no noise from the Treaty faithful either… Have I picked the wrong Friday here…?

23 minutes in and Lee Devitt gets a shot away at the Wexford goal… And it’s cleared off the goalmouth! Close!

35 minutes now and Wexford play it back to their keeper… That’s a bit much that… Keeper’s had to make the save… Referee has given a corner but Treaty are furious and so are the fans! Referee goes over to his Assistant…… It’s going to be an Indirect Free Kick on the edge of the six yard box. “OFF! OFF! OFF!” Treaty fans want the keeper walking… It’s Yellow! Fair decision for me as I don’t think that’s going in.

Enda Curran steps up… It’s blocked! Wexford have got away with it. At half time the score remains in a stalemate.

Second half, 52 minutes on the clock and Treaty play down the right, it’s crossed in… It’s come off a Wexford defender and it falls to Lee Lynch who shoots… AND SCORES!! We have a goal!!! Treaty lead! “I love you Treaty…” And we have some noise! 1-0!

The Treaty fans have a drum as well! Let’s hope they use it to spur on their team. 60th minute and here come Wexford, Mike Rowe gets a shot away just inside the box… Deflected… And it’s gone in… They’re level! The 16 fans behind the goal are happy now! 1-1!

5 minutes later and here come Wexford again, it’s played in and there’s the header from Aaron Dobbs… Keeper parries it… OH! And Dobbs has headed in the rebound while he was on the floor… WOW! And Wexford lead! 1-2!

79th minute now and Wexford are playing with real confidence now, it’s played in from the left and here’s the shot… Blocked! It falls into the path of Kaylem Harnett… He’s poked it home! Wexford get a third! Treaty fans want Offside but they’re not getting it… 1-3!

Into stoppage time now and Wexford’s keeper has it but… It’s a Red Card for Treaty’s Trpimir Vrljičak… Didn’t see what for… Was it violent conduct? Just what Treaty didn’t need… And that’s the game as the Referee blows for full time.

FT: Treaty United 1-3 Wexford

Ratings

  • Atmosphere: 4/10 – A bit of noise in the second half but not as much as I thought it could’ve been…
  • The Ground: 7/10 – Tidy little ground! Non-League vibes and it also backs on from the town jail! Love the stand and the view from the top of the main stand too!
  • Expense: 10/10 – €12 for second tier football is a yes from me!
  • Overall Experience: 4/10 – Really underwhelmed with the game and was hoping for more from the fans but never mind… Really enjoyed my time with the locals beforehand but this was judged on the 90 minutes tonight.

25/40
