The Simplyhealth City Ground, home of Winchester City based in Hampshire and play their trade in Step 3 of the Non League Pyramid in the Southern League Premier Division South. Nicknamed the “Citizens” after the club’s name: “City”.
I have found the second game for after the Eastleigh vs Halifax game which is Winchester City vs Beaconsfield Town so it’s straight back on to the M3 and here I am with about 20 minutes till kick off. Both teams with nothing to play for except pride so who knows what kind of game to expect here.
£12 to watch this step 3 tie! Right ok… A little look around the ground and the teams are ready! A Hampshire double in the making! Let’s go!
Kick Off! 9 minutes in and Beaconsfield have a free kick just outside the box in a shooting position, the shot comes in… Side netting! Close!
17th minute and Winchester get into the box on the left and the shot comes in… Over!
26 minutes now and Beaconsfield play the ball into the box from the right and the Beaconsfield man will get there… And he scores… But he’s Offside! It won’t count!
Not the best of games but a small group of fans behind the goal are giving it a good go as the first half goes on but at half time it remains 0-0.
Second half, Winchester are starting to grow more dominant in this game as the half goes on.
64th minute and Winchester have a corner, it’s played in… The header… And it’s turned in!! It’s Balmer with an overhead kick from point blank to steer the header home and Winchester lead here! The crowd are singing happy birthday to him as well! What a day to score! 1-0!
Beaconsfield are starting to put pressure on the Winchester goal after a series of chances for Winchester after the goal go begging much to the frustration of the Winchester keeper.
89th minute and Beaconsfield have it on the right, it’s played in and it falls for a Beaconsfield man to shoot… Straight at the keeper! Winchester defenders are furious with each other there!
Play goes on… But Winchester hold on for the win!

- Atmosphere: 4/10 – The crowd behind the goals gave it a good go but nothing too loud sadly…
- The Ground: 5/10 – I was expecting a little better for the level unfortunately but the stand is good and I like the bar but behind the goal isn’t accessible all the way around and that is something I am not particularly fond of sadly, it could be better in my opinion!
- Expense: 7/10 – £12 a bit steep and it wasn’t the best game sadly.
- Overall Experience: 6/10 – Not the best of games but I’m glad I did it.
