King George V Playing Fields, home of Ullswater United based in Patterdale, Lake District, Cumbria and play their trade in the Westmorland Football League Division Three… But for how much longer!? A win today against Alston Moor and they are promoted as Champions! Can they do it?

The long drive for me now up the M1 onto the A1 and onto the A66… 3 hours later and here I am! What a lovely drive that is! I’m parked up at the ground with 30 minutes to go before kick off! Can Alston Moor spoil the party here today? Free Entry to this game! Beautiful!

Kick Off! 2 minutes in and Ullswater play forward, the ball is played through to number 11 who runs into the box on the right, he goes for goal… AND HE FINDS IT!!!! WHAT A START FOR ULLSWATER!! A huge roar from the players! 1-0!! That should calm some nerves!

1 minute later and Ullswater play a long ball forward, number 11 gets onto it and he drives into the box on the right again, he goes for goal again… HE’S SCORED AGAIN!!! HE’S ON FIRE!!!!! Ullswater are romping towards the league title and Division Two here!!! 2-0!!!

Ullswater are all over Alston here!! 8 minutes now and Ullswater hit it forward, number 11 is there in the box on the left, he gets his shot away… Is this the hat-trick already!? He’s hit the post! It comes to number 9… He takes a touch and he shoots… Blocked! Alston clear for a corner… Number 9 taking a touch too many there… Corner comes in… It comes for number 3 at the far post and he shoots… Side netting!

Ullswater have slowed down now from that blistering start but they are still the better side in these opening stages here so far. 18 minutes gone and Ullswater hit a long ball forward, number 11 chases it, keeper hesitates… Number 11 gets there first… He can’t make good contact with the ball and Alston intervene but it’s gone to Ullswater’s number 9 on the right and he plays it into the middle… Poor ball and Alston clear.

24th minute and Ullswater have a free kick in the Alston half, it’s played into the middle, the header is deflected into the path of Ullswater’s number 7 running in… OH! He’s missed! He’s put it over from 4 yards out… Sitter! A huge sigh from the spectators here today for that one!

29 minutes on the clock and Ullswater come forward, ball played to number 10 in the box, he shoots… Good save! 2 minutes later and Alston have a corner, in it comes… A free header for number 10… Ooooooh! Just over! 1 minute later and Ullswater play down the left flank, it’s played across to number 11, he takes his time and he shoots… Blocked! Alston clear.

Great to meet other hoppers here today! One has travelled all the way from Aldershot!! Now that is commitment! 43rd minute now and Ullswater come forward, they have it in the box on the left, it’s worked across to number 10 running into the box on the right to shoot first time… It’s there!!! 3-0!! And Ullswater are almost there!! At half time, Ullswater are 3 up!

Second half, a slow start to this half unlike the first half but I sure do love the angles to get photos from here!! 61 minutes on the clock and Alston come forward down the right, it’s crossed in, Ullswater get a foot to it but it falls to Alston’s number 15… Oh it’s a goal!! It’s 3-1!! Good finish!!

1 minute later and Ullswater play down the right, it’s crossed in, number 11 gets onto it, he makes space for the shot… Over! He wants that hat-trick!! 67th minute and Ullswater have a corner, Alston head away but Ullswater retrieve it, it’s played out to the right for Ullswater to chase, it’s crossed in… Alston think that went out of play before the cross! Keeper comes and doesn’t get there… It’s headed in!! The defence couldn’t keep it out and Ullswater have another… The linesman has flagged! The Referee goes over to him… No goal!! Throw in given and it’s still 3-1!

78 minutes on the clock and Ullswater play a long ball down the right to number 11, he plays it across to number 13… Good save again by the keeper!! 85th minute now and Ullswater play down the right again, crossed in, number 8 controls and shoots… Keeper saves again! He charged out there brilliantly! It is a corner, in it comes… Alston head it back to the keeper to punch… He’s punched it straight to Ullswater’s number 11 who heads at goal… And he gets the Hat-trick!! He’s been after that since the third minute of the game!! It’s 4-1! And that is the title now for Ullswater!

Play goes on… The Referee blows for full time and a huge roar from the Ullswater players!!! They are the Champions!!! They are going up!! And now for the presentation! The shield is lifted!! Pop goes the Champagne!! Congratulations to Ullswater United!!!

• The Ground: 9/10 – This is the most picturesque ground I have ever visited!! Hopefully so far but this is simply glorious!! Views at each angle! Just Beautiful!! Wish it had a stand…
• Expense: 10/10 – Free game!
• Overall Experience: 8.5/10 – Great to finally tick off a Lake District ground and it was a good game with a good celebration! Great to meet other hoppers too!
