Kirby Muxloe

Ratby Lane, home of Kirby Muxloe FC based in Leicestershire and play their trade in Step 6 of the Non League Pyramid in the United Counties League Division One.

Pre-Season is well underway and today, me and the Merry Miller are having a trip to Leicestershire for Kirby Muxloe against Desborough Town! Bring it on! 1 hour down the M1 and in glorious sunshine! Should we have gone to the seaside today? Into Ratby Lane we are with around 20 minutes to kick off.

Free Entry here today! Biblical! It certainly is a Spanish summer day here in Leicestershire today! Beautiful day! They’ve got a BBQ on!! But first… WATER PLEASE?? I was so thirsty I downed it in one! Sweet sunshine!

Kick Off! 2 minutes in and Desborough play it forward out wide to the left to number 11, he cuts inside and shoots from the edge of the box… He’s hit the post! Kirby retrieve the loose ball and clear. Nearly the perfect start for Desborough.

Desborough starting the better here, 9 minutes in and they work it forward, it’s played to number 8 in the box on the right and he shoots… Good save by the keeper! Corner, whipped in… Keeper collects.

18th minute now and Kirby come forward down the right, it’s played across the edge of the box to number 10 who shoots first time… Blocked! Comes back to number 10 to shoot AGAIN… Deflected… Just wide! So close! It’s a corner, in it comes…… Desborough clear.

3 minutes later and Kirby play down the right again, it’s worked across to number 8 in the box on the left to shoot… Saved! It comes back to number 8 who plays it across the middle to number 10 who shoots… It’s wide… He should have at least hit the target there!

32 minutes on the clock and Kirby come forward, a ball over the top is played to number 8 in the box and he’s free… He shoots… Brilliant save at point blank from the keeper! It’s a corner for Kirby Muxloe, in it comes… Cleared. Kirby are starting to become the better team in the game now as the game goes on but at half time, the score remains goalless.

Second half, 49 minutes now and Desborough play forward, it’s played over to number 11 on the right in the box, he plays it across to number 14 who beats his man and bares down on goal from 4 yards… Out comes the keeper… Here comes the first… OH NO HE’S MISSED! He’s somehow rolled it wide… That should’ve been the first goal! A shocker of a miss… We’re getting a 0-0 here aren’t we…

61 minutes gone and Kirby Muxloe play it out to number 7 on the right and he drives into the box, he plays it across the middle looking for number 12 at the far post… The Desborough defender slides in and gets there to stop what would have been a certain goal!

68th minute now and Desborough have a corner, it’s played short to number 10 on the edge of the box to cross… Deflected and it’s going out for another but here’s Kirby Muxloe’s number 17 who gets to it and tries to stop the corner… He’s sliced it and where is that going……? It’s headed off the line onto the underside of the bar… That’s gone in that! The Referee has given it! How on earth has he managed that…? It is an unbelievable own goal!! How unlucky can you be as a defender? He’s prevented a corner but not prevented his team conceding… Right on the by line level with the 6 yard line and he’s sliced it all the way in… I wish Match Days Joe was here to film that as it would have gone viral! 0-1!

Can Kirby Muxloe get themselves back into this game here? 80th minute now and Kirby come forward down the left, it’s played to number 11 and he gets into the box, he slides for the ball and gets a shot away… Saved! It’s loose… It falls to a Kirby shirt and the shot comes in… It’s wide! Goal kick.

2 minutes later and Kirby Muxloe have a free kick around 25 yards out in a good shooting position, number 17 steps up… Well over… Not looking good for Kirby here…

89th minute and Kirby come again, it’s worked across to number 17 on the right of the edge of the box to shoot first time… Over! Into stoppage time and Kirby cross from the right… It’s going all the way in… Keeper gets there and tips it away, number 11 retrieves and plays it across… It’s headed out for a corner, in it comes… Desborough clear… Desborough hold on for the win!

• Atmosphere: 1/10 – Dead unfortunately…
• The Ground: 4.5/10 – It’s an okay ground! It is a 3G cage with stands which I don’t personally mind, the stand nearest to the gate is very unique and very cool in the shade during the summer. The trees look very nice from the stand side as well, it does have a Spanish non league sort of feel to it… From what I’ve seen from pictures anyway.
• Expense: 10/10 – Free Entry, next to nothing for fuel this time around and a BBQ? Easy!
• Overall Experience: 5.5/10 – It was a very underwhelming game unfortunately thanks to some good goalkeeping and poor finishing but an inexplicable own goal! An extra half point for that but me and the Merry Miller have certainly seen better games!
