Lincoln Moorlands Railway

The Moorlands Railway Sports & Social Club, home of Lincoln Moorlands Railway based in Lincolnshire and play their trade in the Lincolnshire League. Nicknamed the “Moors” as it’s in the name “Moorlands”.

It was a club that was a make-stay in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division for a number of years and I once saw this team demolish Shirebrook Town 5-1 at Langwith Road back when I was younger but times are different now with the club a few leagues lower from where they once were. Can they get back to Step 5 one day?

Tonight they face Skegness Town in a Pre-Season friendly and this will be my second visit to the ground after coming here earlier in the year to watch Lincoln City Women beat Doncaster Rovers Belles 2-0 in a League game but tonight I’m here for Moorlands. Just under an hour drive from Shirebrook to Lincoln sees me here in good time!

£3 to get in here! Maaaarvellous! Great to see Mark here tonight who is a friend of Hoyland John and even better to meet Austin here tonight! Also great to see Russell from Wycombe here tonight!

Kick Off! 8 minutes in and Skegness have a corner, in it comes… Headed away by Lincoln but it comes to Vincent and he shoots from the edge of the box… Keeper saves but it comes to King in the box, he shoots… Side netting.

15th minute and Skegness have a free kick from around 30 yards out, King steps up and shoots… He’s hit the bar! Did it cross the line…? Davison runs in to head the loose ball… And he heads it home!! It’s definitely over the line now!! Skegness lead! 0-1!

Skegness continuing to look the stronger of the 2 teams here tonight and the difference in Leagues is definitely showing. 35th minute and Skegness play forward, a through ball is played to Rayner and he’s through on goal in the box… And he finishes!! 0-2!!

2 minutes later and Skegness come forward again, it’s the same ball to Rayner and he gets into the box on the right, keeper comes for it… He plays it across to King… He’s missed the ball and Lincoln clear… Should be 3!

43 minutes on the clock and Lincoln come forward, they have it on the right and a cross comes in, number 9 is free and heads towards goal… He’s hit the post! Number 11 runs in… He can’t keep it down and the ball nestles in the roof of the net… So close! Skegness lead 2-0 at half time.

Second half… Can Lincoln mount a fightback here? 48th minute and Skegness have a free kick from about 25 yards out, King shoots… Deflected… It’s gone in! It’s so cruel on Lincoln as it wrong foots the keeper and goes in the opposite corner but that’s football for you! 0-3!

3 minutes later and Skegness play down the right, it’s crossed in, King is there at the far post… He taps it home! And it’s 4 for Skegness! 0-4!

65 minutes now and Lincoln have a corner, it’s whipped in… Number 16 brings it down and shoots… Good defending by Skegness as it’s deflected wide for another corner, in it comes again… Number 16 with the header… Over!

Lincoln are trying their hardest to get a goal but Skegness are proving to be too strong for them here tonight. 82 minutes and Skegness play forward, it’s a lovely move and Rayner is played through in the box… And he finishes!! 0-5!! Skegness rubbing it in now!

2 minutes later and Skegness have it in the box on the left, it’s played across and number 12 is there… Keeper saves but it’s loose… It’s rolled in… Number 12 manages to get the final touch to divert it home and it’s 6 for Skegness! 0-6!

Into the 90th minute and Skegness play forward again, they get into the box on the left again, it’s played across to number 15… Brilliant finish!!! It’s seven heaven for Skegness and that would be the last action of the game tonight! 0-7!

FT: Lincoln Moorlands Railway 0-7 Skegness Town

Ratings

  • Atmosphere: 1/10 – Not too many here tonight and it was dead sadly…
  • The Ground: 6/10 – I gave it 5.5 last time but I do think it looks so much better in the daylight! Lovely picturesque views from one end of the ground and the trees make it look nicer for sure so and extra half point this time around!
  • Expense: 10/10 – £20 in fuel and £3 to get in is good enough for me!!
  • Overall Experience: 7/10 – I enjoyed tonight overall! Great to meet Mark, Austin and Russell tonight and great to see plenty of goals!
