Thurnscoe Sports Ground, Hickleton Main, home of Bolton Ex Servicemens FC based in Barnsley, South Yorkshire and play their trade in the Mexborough Sunday League.
I’m certainly enjoying these Sunday morning games! A bit further a field this time as I see a Mexborough Sunday League game this time around but out of all the Sunday Leagues I have seen so far, the Mexborough League has had the best standard of football I’d say from what I saw at Queens United that night they faced Dog & Daisy United… And from word of mouth as well of course.
Me and the Merry Miller are on the march! The short journey from West Melton to Thurnscoe sees us here just in time for kick off! It’s Bolton Ex Servicemens FC vs Ardsley Oaks FC! Take it away lads!
Kick Off! It’s a fairly competitive start to the game and it certainly is a good standard of football being played for a Sunday League! 11 minutes in and Ardsley play a long ball forward, number 9 battles with the defender… And he’ll get to the ball in the box on the right, he shoots with the outside of his foot… Saved… Off the post and out! So close! It will be a corner, in it comes… All the way out but it comes off a defender and Ardsley have a throw in on the left, it’s taken and it comes to number 9 and he’ll shoot… Deflected wide! The Referee has given a goal kick… Definitely a corner!
14th minute and Bolton come forward, they get it into the box and number 4 will get a shot away… Keeper tips it over! Corner, in it comes… Keeper punches away.
23rd minute now and Ardsley work it forward, number 9 is played in, he’s onside, he goes for the chip… It’s just over the bar! What a chance that is!!
4 minutes later and Ardsley come forward again here, it’s played to number 7 just outside the box, he cuts inside on his left foot and he goes for goal… OH FANTASTIC!!! What a finish! Attlee Jackson the number 7 for Ardsley Oaks with a cracker of a goal!! 0-1!
For the third time this season… I am the assistant Referee… Good luck lads!
40 minutes on the watch and I’ve had no problems yet… Hope I don’t jinx it! Bolton have a free kick on the right hand side… I didn’t give it! Number 4 delivers into the box… It’s headed away by Ardsley.
Right on half time and Ardsley have a throw in on the right, it’s a long one, number 10 with the header… Good reaction save… It’s poked home! It’s Attlee Jackson AGAIN!! Right place, right time! Ardsley double their lead! 0-2! The Referee blows for half time.
Second half, 47th minute and Bolton come forward, it’s set up for number 11 to strike from 30 yards which he does… Oooooh! Just over!
55 minutes now and Bolton come forward, a long ball is played to number 18 and he’s got a sight of goal… He’s blazed it over… Chance!
62 minutes and Bolton play the ball back to their keeper… Oh no he’s lost it and Attlee Jackson must score… He does! It shouldn’t happen to a keeper but it has and Attlee Jackson has a hat-trick! 0-3!
69th minute and Bolton have a corner, it’s played in, number 5 with the header… Just wide!
4 minutes later and Bolton play down the right, it’s crossed in, the keeper comes for it… He gets a bit on it and he’ll chase it… Bolton get there first and it’s played to number 12 outside the box, he goes for the lob… Yes! He finds the net! It’s Adam Wright for Bolton! 1-3! Is the fight back on?
76 minutes now and Bolton play a ball over the top for number 5 and he races into the box… He’s clipped there! No Penalty! He’s unlucky there for me… The Referee is not happy with his protests and he is in the book! Yellow Card!
78th minute and Ardsley win the ball back in the Bolton half, it’s played to number 9 in the box and he’s got plenty of time and space, he shoots… Oooooh no! He’s dragged it wide! That should be 4!
86th minute and Bolton play down the right, it’s crossed in and it comes to number 5 on the far side, he gets into the box and gets past the defender, he’s past another one and he gets a shot away… Saved! Brilliant goalkeeping! Ardsley will see this game out 3-1 winners!
