Whaley Thorns, Cockshut Lane, home of Langwith Whitestar based in Derbyshire and play their trade in the Mansfield ICI Sunday League Division One.

Sunday mornings are back underway and it’s another invitational affair! Langwith Whitestar’s manager Kyle has kindly invited me to today’s game against Shirebrook Soldiers Athletic which promises to be a tasty tie! I can never say no to an invite!

The short drive through Shirebrook and left at the Jug & Glass and here I am just under 10 minutes later. The players and Referee are ready! Is it the day of the stars or sojas here?!

Kick Off! “Come on Langwith!” A Lady from her bedroom window watches over the game here today. I bet she’s got a great view!

A poor game so far with both teams enjoying the ball respectively. 21 minutes in and Langwith play a long ball forward, it falls to number 10 in the box on the left to shoot… Deflected over for a corner, in it comes… Cleared but it’s played back into the box, the header… Keeper claims.

Great to bump into my old school friend Tom here today who I haven’t seen in years! 30th minute now and Langwith’s number 8 drives at goal, he shoots from just outside the box… Saved! Tipped wide and well! Corner, it comes in… Cleared by Shirebrook.

4 minutes later and Langwith with a long ball into the box, it’s flicked on, number 10 is there… He’s scuffed it… And it’s cleared. Biggest chance of the game so far!

39 minutes now and Langwith come forward, a through ball to number 10 in the box on the right, he beats the defender… And he tucks it away! 1-0! Shirebrook wanting Offside in the build up and I think they have a case but Langwith do have the lead!

The game still hasn’t reached the heights that we all wanted here so far and at half time the score is 1-0 to Langwith.

Second half, 54 minutes on the watch and Langwith play it forward, number 9 gets to it in the box on the right and he’s in… Saved! Too casual! That should easily be 2!

71 minutes gone and Langwith play a long ball towards number 9, Shirebrook’s number 16 falls and number 9 is away, he gets into the box on the left, keeper gets to the ball and claims… Another big chance goes begging! Shirebrook are going to get something at this rate!

77th minute and Shirebrook come forward, it’s played through in the box for number 15 to shoot… Blocked! Out for a corner, in it comes… Cleared.

80th minute and it’s a free kick on the edge of the box for Langwith, number 11 to take, he shoots… Miles over! Conversion!

2 minutes later and Shirebrook play a long ball, it’s flicked on to 14 in the box on the right, he shoots… Saved! Corner, in it comes… It’s headed on to number 12 who chests and goes for the backheel… OH! Just wide!

89 minutes now and Langwith with the ball forward and number 13 shrugs off the defender and he’s in… OH he’s put it wide! That should’ve been the game there for Langwith!

Into Added time and Shirebrook come forward and win a free kick in a good shooting position just outside the box, number 7 to take, he goes to curl it… OH WHAT ABOUT THAT!! They’ve got it!! He’s curled it right around the wall and into the top corner! Keeper flat footed! 1-1! Sensational! That will be the last action of the game!

• Atmosphere: 2/10 – The lady at the window was great! Really got behind the team! That was it really.
• The Ground: 3/10 – Not the best, it is a park and the pitch is on a slope but it does have some decent features like views and trees but nothing too special sadly.
• Expense: 10/10 – £0!
• Overall Experience: 6/10 – Thank you to Kyle for inviting me today and great to see Tom here today! Not the best of games but a cracking equaliser right at the end there!
