AFC Telford United

New Buck’s Head, home of AFC Telford United based in Shropshire and play their trade in the National League North. Nicknamed the “Bucks” named after their home ground.

It’s looking like AFC Telford United will be playing at Step 3 next season as they are currently rooted bottom of the National League North… The club managed to survive last season after being bottom for a long time but it’s looking like this season is the season they will be going down.

It’s another strongly recommended ground by Trevor from Hednesford and today Telford face Curzon Ashton. A big performance needed by Telford today!

Coaching duties are done for another Saturday morning so it’s onto the M1, to the A38… Again! Onto the M6 leading to the M54… A lot of traffic… 2:15pm and here I am at last in the car park. £3 for parking. Shropshire seems to be a bit more difficult to get to than other places respectively.

£16 to watch this match! Brilliant! Another one of Trev’s ticks completed today and on first glance, I certainly should be asking him for more! But we will save the ratings for later. The players are ready and out they come. A groundshrop for me today! Let’s see some goals!

Kick Off! 11 minutes in and Curzon play down the right, Craig Mahon plays it into the box, James Spencer stretches for it and gets a leg to it… But it’s straight at the keeper.

24th minute and Telford get into the box on the right, the shot comes in… The keeper gets something on it but Montel Gibson is there at the far post… And scores! 1-0! Telford are in front!

4 minutes later and Curzon play forward to James Spencer in the box on the right, he’s got space and he shoots… It’s in off the bar! Good finish! 1-1! Curzon are level just like that! The Curzon bench are delighted especially from the abuse from the Telford fans behind them!

31 minutes now and it’s a free kick for Curzon in the Telford half, it’s lumped into the box, George Waring wins the header… And he’s found the net! 1-2! Curzon have turned this game around in the flick of a switch!

33 minutes on the clock now and Curzon come forward again, a long ball is played from the right to James Spencer in the box on the right, he beats his man just outside the six yard box… He plays it across to Thomas Peers to shoot… Off the line! He gets it back… And he scores this time! 1-3! Wow! “If you’re not bothered then go home!” Telford fans are getting frustrated now… I would be too!

37th minute and Curzon are looking for more, Hayden Campbell crosses it from the right, it’s headed down at the far post to Adam Barton, he plays a 1-2 in the box and shoots… Straight at the keeper… And he claims it.

1 minute later and Curzon get into the box on the left, it’s played across and set up for Thomas Peers for number FOUR… NO! It’s saved! Too easy for Curzon but somehow it stays out.

41 minutes now and Telford play down the right, it’s crossed in, Brad Bood comes in with the volley… Saved and here’s the rebound… Blocked! Curzon clear for a corner, in it comes… Cleared by Curzon. At half time the score remains 3-1 to Curzon Ashton.

Second half, 54th minute and Telford win it in the Curzon half and come forward, Kai Williams plays a 1-2 and shoots from the edge of the box… Keeper saves! Better from Telford.

2 minutes later and Telford play down the left, it’s played to Kai Williams who gets into the box, he nutmegs the defender and goes for the near post… It’s saved! Corner, in it comes… Cleared by Curzon.

70th minute and Telford play down the left, it’s crossed in, Prince Ekpolo with header at the near post… It’s looped over the keeper… AND IT’S IN OFF THE POST!! 2-3! Telford are back in it!!

77th minute and it’s a free kick for Telford just past halfway, it’s launched into the box, Montel Gibson gets his foot to it… Keeper saves at his near post! Corner, it’s whipped in… George Waring is there at his own goal… OH! It’s saved and hit away to the left for Telford to retrieve it’s crossed back in, handball? Yes says the Referee! Free kick on the left for Telford now, Luke Burke goes for goal… Side netting!

82 minutes now and Curzon play down the right, Harry Flowers with a nasty challenge… The Referee is in his back pocket… I think we know what this is… He’s off! Red Card! Silly challenge! Telford down to 10 men…

Play goes on and Telford are knocking on the door… But Curzon have held on for the win!

FT: AFC Telford United 2-3 Curzon Ashton

Ratings

  • Atmosphere: 3/10 – Very dull unfortunately but you could tell there was a crowd there and it did pick up in the second half, don’t know if their league position is to blame…?
  • The Ground: 10/10 – Love it!! Absolutely fantastic ground! Standing terraces and a good seated stand as well! Really close to the pitch and very enclosed. Good enough for League 2 in my opinion! Fantastic ground!
  • Expense: 9/10 – £16 to get in, £3 for parking and a bit extra for food and drink, was it worth it? I do think £16 is a bit steep for this level but we still got a decent game here today!
  • Overall Experience: 7.5/10 – A great game today! I do wish the atmosphere was a little better but still a decent day here.

29.5/40

Yes nice ground in Central Midlands League , pity Hednesford not be in it next season , The High Peak Bucks messed up against these this season, but never mind , my thoughts there down now Telford, and 16 quid, expensive or what ?
