Bank Holiday Monday is here which can only mean one thing: FOOTBALL!! Straight back to it from Cornwall and I am delighted to be joined by Mike Bayly and the Merry Miller for a trip down the A1 to Cambridgeshire to see March Town United vs Godmanchester Rovers.
So down the A1 it is and into the ground with around 30 minutes until kick off. £8 to get in here! Smashing! The wooden stand certainly is an eyesore! Out come the teams, Bank Holiday Football! Let’s roll!
Kick Off! 4 minutes in and March get into the box… Did the keeper bring the March man down there…? Yes! Says the Referee! Penalty! Can’t argue with that! Declan Rogers steps up… And he scores!! March lead! 1-0! “Everywhere we go! We’re the March Town boys making all the noise!”
March are looking much the better team so far! 16th minute and Williams is played through in the box on the right and he shoots… Keeper parries… Godmanchester get it away!
3 minutes later and a poor header sees March in the box on the right again with Williams, he plays it across… OH! Somehow the Godmanchester defender gets there to put it behind for a corner, in it comes… Out for a goal kick.
27 minutes on the watch and March come again, it’s played in to Williams who sets it on to his right foot in the box to shoot… He’s hit the bar! So close!
36 minutes now and March have a free kick on the right in a crossing position, it’s played in low… Godmanchester get there first but it’s loose… It falls for March and it’s played across to Craig Gillies who shoots on the turn… And he finds the net! 2-0!
42 minutes now and Matt Foy drives forward for March, he gets past the defender and into the box on the right, he shoots… Brilliant finish! THREE! March have daylight! 3-0! That is how it stayed at half time.
Second half, 58 minutes on the clock and March come forward again, it’s played in to Matt Foy who gets into the box, he hesitates and shoots… Over!
81st minute and March win the ball back on the edge of the box and the shot comes in… Keeper parries it straight to Josh Moreman who sets himself… And finishes brilliantly!! It is 4! 4-0!
Into added time and March come forward once again, it’s worked through into the box and played across goal for Declan Rogers… To finish off a fine display from March!! 5-0!
Last minute and Godmanchester have a corner, played short and played into the box… The header… Wide! The Referee blows for full-time!
FT: March Town United 5-0 Godmanchester Rovers
Ratings
- Atmosphere: 3/10 – The March fans made some noise after they scored with a drum, I wish they would have used it more and there was a real community spirit here today!
- The Ground: 8/10 – It’s all about the stand! There isn’t too much else here other than the standing area on the far side and the mini garden. The pitch is a fair bit away along the side but behind the goal is right next to the pitch but still a nice ground!
- Expense: 9/10 – £8 to get in, £20 on fuel and a bit on food and drink, not too bad!
- Overall Experience: 8/10 – Great to see the Merry Miller and Mike Bayly today and great to finally tick this ground off before the stand comes down!
