Penzance AFC

Penlee Park, home of Penzance AFC based in Cornwall and play their trade in Step 6 of the Non League Pyramid in the South West Peninsula League Premier Division West. Nicknamed the “Magpies” which should give you a clue what colour or colours they play in!

So ends my 5 days in Cornwall with trips to Land’s End, Cape Cornwall and St Michael’s Mount completed for the first time ever!!

But for now the final event is a trip to Penlee Park to see Penzance play St Dennis in hopefully a blockbuster final event! Fingers crossed! Just down the road from the Hostel into the small car park to cement my place in there just in time for Bournemouth vs Tottenham in the clubhouse.

The Penzance players are sat down and in good spirits but an announcement has just been made… “Delayed Kick Off!” Oh dear… The reason being is that they are stuck in traffic… Not all too surprising to me unfortunately after my journey down here on the A30 but thankfully it is only delayed until 3:15pm.

Tottenham beat Bournemouth 2-0 and now into Penlee Park. £5 to watch this match! Fabulous! The teams are now ready to play in this glorious Cornish sunshine! One last hurrah in Cornwall for now! Make it a good one lads!

Kick Off! St Dennis have started the better of the 2 teams in the early stages but as the half goes on, Penzance are growing into this tie.

18 minutes in and Penzance come forward and that is a brilliant ball and Oscar Massey is in… OH! He’s dinked the keeper brilliantly! WHAT A FINISH! But what a ball that was! Penzance lead and I am going home with a goal from each game! 1-0!

1 minute later and Penzance come again, it’s ball into the box on the right and it’s played across low… It’s going to fall nicely for Frazer CADMAN… OH! It’s a brilliant save! St Dennis need to regroup here!

29th minute and Penzance come forward, it’s placed to Oscar Massey just outside the box who cuts inside on his right and he fires at goal… AND SCORES!! He’s done it again!! 2-0 Penzance!!

33 minutes now and Penzance play it to Oscar Massey who gets into the box and puts it on his left and shoots… He’s dragged it wide!

Penzance continue to push for more but a great first half performance from the St Dennis keeper sees it stay at 2-0.

Second half, Penzance continuing to dominate in the early second half stages here. 56th minute and here they come again, Oscar Massey gets onto his right foot in the box and shoots… Brilliant save again by the St Dennis keeper! Corner for Penzance… Cleared by St Dennis.

63 minutes now and Penzance have a free kick on the edge of the box in a shooting position, they do shoot… OH! Another save from the keeper! Brilliant goalkeeping!

70th minute now and St Dennis hit the ball long and out comes the Penzance keeper… He’s beaten to the ball and Andrew Butler is in… He’s managed to steer the ball home and St Dennis are back in it! 2-1!

5 minutes later and Penzance drive into the box on the left, they manage to get the ball across the middle and… It’s in the keeper’s hands again somehow after number 19 hits it straight at him from close range with the goal gaping!

84th minute now and St Dennis have a free kick from around 30 yards out, number 7 strikes… SAVED! Keeper gets down to it and Penzance are reprieved!

89th minute and here comes Oscar Massey for Penzance who drives forward, he wants that hat-trick! He gets into the box and shoots… Saved again! He’s not going to get it is he?!

Play goes on… Penzance see out the game! A big win for them!

FT: Penzance 2-1 St Dennis

Ratings

  • Atmosphere: 2/10 – A few jeers and cheers and clapping, it wasn’t too dead!
  • The Ground: 7/10 – One of the best entrances to a ground I have seen! The stand is really nice and again we have elevated banks around the ground! It’s pretty good!
  • Expense: 10/10 – £5 I am always happy to pay!
  • Overall Experience: 6/10 – 3 goals and a closely contested game! It was good and I’m glad I’ve visited!

Had some good trips to Penzance and have always admired the entrance block.
