Campion AFC

The Players Cars Stadium, home of Campion AFC who are based just on the outskirts of Bradford. 26th September 2020 and Campion is the chosen destination of me, the Merry Miller and Ben the Blade, so off we went. The groundhoppers team is at full strength today with the extra addition of another Merry Miller so fingers crossed for a good game. 32 games without a goalless draw for me now, let’s hope today doesn’t end that run.

After driving through Bradford city centre, we finally made it to Campion. £5 to get in here! Very nice! Straight to the clubhouse for some warmth and Brighton are drawing 2-2 with Man Utd and the referee blows for full time. At least Brighton don’t need to worry about conceding a penalty to them now…

Anyway, onto today’s game, Campion with a solid 3 goal victory during the week whereas Dronfield with a 3 goal loss during the week, who do I put my money on for this game? A very good view of the pitch from the clubhouse I must say, very easy to watch the game from here with weather like what we have at the moment. The Merry Miller says “Campion will score from a set piece today!” Will he be right?

Kick Off! A good start to the game from both sides here but Campion seem to have the edge. 18 minutes gone and the ball falls to the Dronfield defence who clear the ball up field… No they don’t, the ball hits Day and he’s through for Campion he’s 1 on 1… Save by the keeper! Should have been 1-0 there. 20 minutes gone and Campion have the ball again, it’s played forward to Aiden Kirby and he’s through he must score… HE DOES SCORE!! In off the post and that is 33 games without a bore draw for me!!

Campion continue to dominate this game, they have Dronfield on the rocks here. 30 minutes gone and here they come again, Aiden Kirby finds himself with the ball on the edge of the box and he goes for goal on the half volley…… He’s got 2!! And Campion have 2 and they are cruising now!! Campion continue to dictate the pace of the game. Into stoppage time now, Dronfield with a rare chance in the game… OFF THE POST!! It still could be, but the keeper has the ball now, should have been 2-1 but at half time it remained 2-0.

Second half! Dronfield have come out fighting here, they aren’t giving up this one without a fight! 57 minutes gone and Dronfield continue to press, if I was a betting man, I know who I would back to score next! Aiden Kirby has the ball down the right hand side and he crosses in low to Hunter!!! It’s 3-0 to Campion… It’s a good job I didn’t bet after all!!

71 minutes on the clock, Dronfield with the ball on the right and the cross is delivered, Campion appeal for offside, flick on and it’s Stewart… 3-1!!! Campion aren’t happy with the linesman but the goal stands! I thought the linesman was right personally… How would Campion respond? Campion straight up the other end and the ball falls to Aiden Day who drives towards goal, 30 yards out and he shoots…… OH WHAT ABOUT THAT!!!!??? 4-1!!! WHAT A GOAL!! No goalie in the world would have saved that, a long range shot into the top corner and surely game, set match to Campion now.

76 minutes gone, a corner for Dronfield. In it comes, a header from Mawbey!! Save by the keeper but the Dronfield players believe it crossed the line and so does the ref and it’s 4-2! 78 minutes gone and a corner for Campion now. The corner comes in and a header… OFF THE POST!! Back into the box and it’s Qasim!! 5-2 and that should be that!

82 minutes gone and Campion with a free kick. It’s delivered and it falls to Aiden Kirby is this the hattrick? No, it’s off the bar, so close!! Campion continue to attack but would not make it 6 but a great win for them nonetheless.

FT: Campion 5-2 Dronfield Town
