Parkgate FC

Roundwood Pavilion, home of Parkgate FC based on the outskirts of Rotherham, South Yorkshire. 17th August 2013 and Shirebrook have been drawn away at Parkgate in the FA Cup extra preliminary round.  Parkgate playing in the NCEL Premier division at this point which was one league above Shirebrook making Shirebrook the underdogs in this tie, but this is the FA Cup and as every football fan knows, anything could happen!

This would be the third and most recent visit to the ground for myself after seeing Shirebrook lose two cup finals the season before, not a happy place for Shirebrook! Arrival at the ground and straight to the clubhouse. The opening day of the premier league season and the first match to kick off the season is Liverpool Vs Stoke City on the new channel, BT Sport. Come on Liverpool!! Game over and Liverpool win 1-0! Great start to the day for me, let’s hope Shirebrook can make it a double whammy!

£4 to get into this one! Magnificent! Up goes the Shirebrook flag into the stand behind the goal where me and the Shirebrook Boys will be parked for the game today! Kick Off! A very good start for Shirebrook who took the game to Parkgate. 13 minutes gone and a free kick for Shirebrook in a dangerous crossing position. The free kick comes in, Gavin King is there… IN!!!! 1-0 to Shirebrook!! And it’s been coming!!

Parkgate struggling to get out of their own half, an ambitious effort from the half way line by Parkgate and…… Tipped over by the Shirebrook keeper!! That was a close one! Shirebrook continued to dominate,  a shot at the Parkgate goal was pushed out by the keeper straight to Aaron Moxam!! It’s 2!!!! Shirebrook playing Parkgate off the park here!! This would continue as the half went on but no third goal would come. Half time the score was 0-2.

Second half, much improved performance by Parkgate who started enjoy a good spell of play. Parkgate would dominate possession but ultimately fail to find the final ball and break down the Shirebrook the defence. 74 minutes and Shirebrook have got a break away, the ball now in the area with Gavin King again… Couldn’t miss!! 3 for Shirebrook now! Game, set & match!!

FT: Parkgate 0-3 Shirebrook Town
