The Academy Stadium, home of Manchester City Women based just outside of Manchester City Centre and they compete in the Women’s Super League. This Stadium is also the home of the Manchester City Youth Academy sides but for tonight, it’s for the Manchester City Women who take on Leicester City Women in the Quarter Final of the Women’s FA Cup!
The train to Manchester Piccadilly once again… I’m starting to get to know this place a lot more! Time is running out which can mean only one thing… Taxi for Topliss! In that voice of course! With 10 minutes to spare, I have made it! £8 to watch this Women’s FA Cup tie! Wonderful!
Kick Off! “Come on City!” A bit of noise from the fans in attendance tonight! “We love you City we do! Oh City we love you!” If only it was this loud at the Etihad over there… 12 minutes on and Leicester win the ball back on the halfway line with Natasha Flint and now they break forward, she plays it to Jess Sigsworth on the edge of the box, she gets it onto her right foot and she goes for goal… Just over! Close!
“We love you City we do! Oh City we love you!” Still going strong from the City fans! 15th minute and Man City come forward now, the ball is played out to the left, it’s crossed in, it comes to Jess Park at the far post for the header… Keeper saves! 19 minutes now and Man City come again, it’s on the left wing again, played to Caroline Weir who plays it across low… OOOHH! No one could get on the end of that but a Leicester foot did get to it and it is a corner for City, played short, it gets to the edge of the box, played forward… Offside!
35 minutes on the clock now and Man City play a ball down the right wing, it’s crossed in low… Straight to the keeper… The game has gone a bit flat… 39th minute and Man City come forward again, a great passing move wins them a corner, in it comes… Headed away by Leicester. At half time the score remains 0-0… Not again please…
Second half, “Come on City!” Man City come flying out of the blocks here down the left, they get into the box and it is pulled back to Caroline Weir and she plays it across goal… Bunny Shaw gets to it… Off the bar… AND IN!!!! The flag stays down and Manchester City lead here!!! 1-0! What a start to the second half for City!
49th minute and Man City come down that left hand side once more, it’s pulled back again but this time to Filippa Angeldahl who shoots first time… OH! She’s missed it!! She’s put it over… Should be 2! 52 minutes now and Leicester give the ball away cheaply in their own half, Vicky Losada picks it up and drives forward, she gets to around 25 yards out and let’s fly… OH WHAT A HIT!!!!! EAT THAT!!! It is 2 now! What a strike!! 2-0!!
“Da da dadada dadadada City!” 61 minutes and Man City have a corner, it’s played in low… It comes to a City shirt and the shot comes in… It hits Bunny Shaw… And it drops in!!!! 3-0 now!! And Man City look like they’re home and dry.
70th minute and Man City are looking for more! The ball is played through for Lauren Hemp in the box, down she goes… Penalty!! The Referee has pointed to the spot! I have to agree there! Alex Greenwood to take… And score!! Game over now surely! 4-0!!
It’s wave after wave of City attacks here now with no answer from Leicester. 83rd minute and Man City come down the right wing, it’s played back for the cross into the box, Bunny Shaw at the back post heads it back across for Ellen White… It’s wide. 2 minutes later and here come City again, the ball comes to Jill Scott who drives into the box on the right, she crosses towards the back post, Bunny Shaw with the header… Is this the hat-trick…? YOU BET IT IS!!!! 5-0!!
88th minute and Man City come again, played out wide to the right, it’s played across low to Filippa Angeldahl who shoots… It’s another one!!! 6-0 now! It’s been a half to forget for Leicester… City press for more but would ultimately have to settle for 6.
