Olivers Mount, home of Handsworth FC based on the outskirts of Sheffield, South Yorkshire and compete in Step 5 of the non league pyramid in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division. Nicknamed the “Ambers” which may give you a clue what colour kit they play in… My first re-visit since starting the blog and my third visit in total here. Me and Match Days Joe will be in attendance tonight for the visit of Albion Sports! The last visit scored a 21/40, can it score higher and move up the table?
A short journey for me tonight for a change! One simple bus journey from Sheffield to Handsworth and here I am! £5 to get in here! Exquisite!
Kick Off! 8 minutes in and Handsworth come forward, a through ball is played to Leon Howarth and he’s beaten the offside trap here… And he finishes!!! Handsworth lead here! What a start!!! 1-0! Can Albion respond?
14 minutes now and Handsworth play down the left flank with Kane Reece, he plays it in low towards Sam Smith… He’s hit the side netting… Big chance there! Albion not out of this by any stretch of the imagination as they are looking dangerous in the final third but Handsworth are holding their own here.
32nd minute and Handsworth have a throw in on the right, played in, ball with Leon Howarth and he drives across the edge of the box, he shoots… Fantastic save by the keeper! He tips it wide on the stretch for a corner, in it comes… Headed out for another corner, in that one comes… Albion head away.
1 minute later and Albion drive forward with Jaydan Sandhu, he plays it through to Daniel Facey and he goes for it… He’s skied it! He’s got to hit the target from there for me! Into the 43rd minute now and Albion have a corner, in it comes… Graham Hall rises the highest… But it’s over! Right on half time and Handsworth play down the right flank, played across low… Misses everyone but it comes to Mitchell Dunne to strike… Over! The Referee blows for half time right after that one.
Great to see Bill here tonight who I haven’t seen since Emley AFC and Staveley! Second half, 50th minute and Albion play a long through ball towards Jamal Stewart, he’s onside and he’s in… He’s took a touch too many and the keeper makes the save, it is a corner nonetheless, played short… Handsworth clear.
55th minute and Albion play the ball to Jaydan Sandhu, 25 yards out and he goes for goal… Straight at the keeper. 58 minutes now and Handsworth have a free kick in the Albion half, it’s whipped in to the middle, Sam Smith with the header… It’s there!!!! It’s 2!!! Handsworth double their lead!! 2-0!!
61 minutes now and Handsworth come down the left flank, played inside to Mitchell Dunne, 35 yards out and he goes for goal… He forces a save out of the Albion keeper and they have a corner, played short, crossed in… Albion clear. 65 minutes on the clock and Albion have the ball in the Handsworth half, played to Jaydan Sandhu who plays it through to Daniel Facey… Side netting! Big chances here for Albion.
68 minutes now and Albion play out from the back from a goal kick… They lose the ball and Albion burst forward, played through to Daniel Facey again… He stretches for it and gets there but so does the Handsworth keeper again! And they clear the danger. 74th minute and Handsworth play the ball forward to Sam Smith, he beats his man and drives at goal, he shoots on the edge of the box… Keeper saves.
The game has slowed down now with Handsworth looking pretty comfortable with their lead now. Into the 90th minute and Handsworth have a corner, played in to the edge of the box for Ant Mackie to volley… He finds a Handsworth shirt in the box and he turns and shoots… And finishes… But it was controlled by a hand and the goal will not count. Into stoppage time and Albion play down the left, played across to Jamal Stewart who controls and shoots… Just wide! And that is the last action of the game! Good win for Handsworth!
