Angel Grenoside

Ecclesfield School, home of Angel Grenoside based in Sheffield, South Yorkshire and play their trade in the Sheffield Imperial Sunday League Second Division. A rare late kick off for me in the coaching side of things which gives me the opportunity to catch a Sunday League game! Let’s have a look for one…

FC Manor Barn vs AFP in the Rotherham Sunday League is the chosen location! Onto Sheffield Parkway onto Rotherway and here I am at Herringthorpe Athletics Ground… And no one is here… Oh no!! Decisions Decisions… Let’s look elsewhere! Ecclesfield Red Rose vs Nappy’s XI… What a name for a team by the way! Off to Meadow Farm restaurant in Ecclesfield! Here I am with 15 minutes to kick off… They’ve already kicked off… Must have been an earlier one… Oh no!

Looks like It’ll be a missed opportunity for me now with time running out… One last look… Angel Grenoside vs Dronfield FC at Ecclesfield School! Just around the corner! Off I go! Here I am with 5 minutes to spare! Let’s hope they haven’t kicked off early………… THEY HAVEN’T!!! Get in!! Another s***house win for Topliss!!

Kick Off! 3 minutes in and Angel have a throw in, it’s a long one into the box, flicked on… And turned in!! Number 8 for Angel running in to tap home and Angel lead here!! 1-0!!

Angel bossing the game so far in the early stages. 9 minutes now and Angel play it down the left, it’s played across the middle and here’s number 9… Who finishes!!! 2-0!! This could be a very high score for Angel the way things are going…

13th minute and Angel’s number 13 sprints down the right flank, it’s played across low to find number 9 on the edge of the box to shoot first time… Keeper saves! 18 minutes on the clock and Angel come forward once again, number 8 gets it and he glides past the Dronfield defenders, 20 yards out and he goes for goal… And he finds it!! Good strike!! 3-0!!

24th minute and Dronfield play forward for the first time in the game now, number 11 has it in the box, he works hard to get the shot away and he just about does… But it’s wide! 29 minutes now and Angel play it down the left, played into the middle and here’s number 15 who shoots… Saved! Rebound! In… He’s Offside!! It won’t count!

1 minute later and Dronfield have a corner, in it comes… Number 15 is there… His shot is blocked! It goes back to the edge of the box for Dronfield to shoot again… Straight to number 6… OH! Great save!!! He tried to steer in the wayward shot but the keeper on hand to tip it wide! Corner again, in it comes again… It falls for Dronfield to shoot… Wide!

35 minutes gone and Angel have a corner, in it comes… Punched away by the keeper but only to number 6 on the edge of the box, he takes a touch and he gets his shot away… Off the post and in!! 4-0!! Job done surely for Angel Grenoside now!!

43 minutes now and Dronfield’s number 16 has the ball at the back… He’s lost it and here’s number 6 for Angel and he’s through on goal, he shoots… It’s saved and hits the side netting… Should’ve scored easily there! Corner, in it comes… Oooh! Headed wide! At half time Angel lead 4-0.

Second half, Angel still on top but Dronfield showing more fight than before so far in the second half. 55 minutes on the clock and Angel come forward from the right, it’s played in to number 9 in the box who’s free with plenty of space and must score… He’s put it wide… And how!? 66th minute and Angel play forward down the left, it’s crossed in and here’s number 9 with the header… Off the post! Keeper claims the loose ball! So close again!

The game has slowed down since the first half with Angel looking comfortable but struggling to find their 5th goal. 80 minutes gone and Angel have a corner, in it comes… Dronfield clear and they break forward, the ball is played through for number 15 to run onto and he’s in… He rolls it in!! Dronfield do get their goal!! 4-1!!

Angel not happy with conceding and are determined not to lose this half! 88th minute and Angel come forward, number 6 has it, he plays it back, Angel working it around the Dronfield defence, it’s played through to number 6… He scores! But it’s Offside and it won’t count…

90th minute and Angel come forward again, it’s played into number 11 in the box and he takes a touch, he shoots… He’s got it!! There you are!! Angel do get their second half goal!! 5-1!! And it’s a comfortable win for Angel Grenoside!!

• The Ground: 3.5/10 – It’s a cage but a picturesque one at that!! Extra half point for the banking behind it!
• Expense: 10/10 – A free game again!
• Overall Experience: 5/10 – A standard game but good to see plenty of goals!!
