Barnsley Sunday League Supplementary Trophy Semi-Final

The Dorothy Hyman Sports Centre, the setting for tonight’s Barnsley Sunday League Supplementary Trophy Semi-Final between Eastfield Athletic & Prospect FC of the Barnsley Sunday League Division One. The ground is based in Cudworth, Barnsley, South Yorkshire.

It’s a rare place to see football with it being an Athletics ground mainly which makes this a great opportunity to finally tick this place off! Whilst I have seen a game on the 3G pitch and even had a game with my Wisewood team on there against Elite AFC, the main pitch has always been the one to tick!

Work is done for another week. It’s the short journey across to Cudworth through Athersley North and here I am at the ground with over an hour until kick off. A cracker of a game last week finishing 5-4 so hopefully more of the same tonight as the players arrive.

The warm ups are underway and a fair few spectators are starting to turn up, could we have a bit of atmosphere for the Sunday League here?! Is that a familiar face just walking in? Yes it is! It’s only Mark! I knew there would be some familiar faces here tonight!

The teams are ready! A place in the Supplementary Trophy Final awaits! Who wants it more?! Oh hello Officer Kizz! Just in time!

Kick Off! 5 minutes in and it’s a corner for Eastfield, in it comes… It’s headed down and number 20 runs in for it… And he’s scored! It’s in off the bar! Good finish! A great start! 1-0!

1 minute later and Eastfield come again, it’s played through to number 8 running into the box on the right, he gets there and shoots… He’s got it! Wow! Eastfield are making a HUGE step towards the final here! 2-0!

17th minute and it’s a throw in on the right for Eastfield, it’s a long one, it’s headed down and number 20 goes for the lob… He’s hit the bar! So close again!

24 minutes now and Eastfield play down the right, it’s crossed in, number 20 is there… And he heads it home brilliantly! 3-0! That should be the game now for Eastfield!

Eastfield continue to dominate this game as the first half goes on but at half time the score remains at 3-0.

Second half, 50 minutes now and Eastfield have it on the edge of the box, it’s played through to number 30 and out comes the keeper… it’s saved!

56th minute and Eastfield have a free kick on the left just outside the box, it’s taken quickly… But he’s hit the one man wall… He’ll get it back and he crosses, it falls for number 20 in space… Who smashes it home! No doubt about it now! 4-0! Eastfield are going to the final!

5 minutes later and Prospect come forward now down the right, it’s crossed in, number 10 wins the header… And he’s scored! It’s in off the post! They’ve got one! Only a consolation though I’m sure! 4-1!

66th minute and it’s another corner for Eastfield, it’s headed away but comes to number 10 to shoot from inside the box on the left… And he finds the net! Keeper flat footed and Eastfield restore their 4 goal lead! 5-1!

80 minutes on the watch now and Eastfield’s number 41 drives forward, he gets to the edge of the box and pulls the trigger… It’s through the keeper and it’s another one! That should be saved… 6-1!

86th minute and Eastfield play down the right, it’s played across to number 41 who gets into the box on the left, he gets his shot away… and that is a great finish! It’s 7 for Eastfield! 7-1!

Play goes on… But Eastfield will have to settle for 7.and are into the final!

FT: Eastfield Athletic 7-1 Prospect FC

*GROUND REVIEW*

  • The Ground: 6.5/10 – It’s all about the stand! A great view of the pitch from the stand and the athletics track doesn’t make it too far away but also a nice view from the stand in the distance. A decent setup despite it’s athletics origin.
