Club Doncaster Sports Village, home of Bawtry Town based in South Yorkshire next to Doncaster Rover’s Eco-Power Stadium and the Athletics ground and also next door to XP School. Bawtry play their trade in the Doncaster Rovers Saturday League.
It’s been a long time since I saw a game in this league but one that does happen occasionally on a Friday night is Bawtry Town and they are at home once again tonight against Gainsborough Town, let’s get it ticked off! Bawtry rooted bottom on one point whereas Gainsborough are just a few places above them but on a good run of form.
Onto the M1 and to the M18 and here I am outside the ground with about 15 minutes to kick off… It’s a little nippy! Free Entry to this game! Beautiful! Not many here tonight but hey ho let’s see the game!
Kick Off! 5 minutes in and Gainsborough bomb down the right, the cross, number 10 is there at the far post… He’s hit it across goal… It’s come back to him… And he leathers it home! What a start! Gainsborough lead! 0-1!
1 minute later and Gainsborough break forward, number 10 is away down the left, he plays it across to number 11 in the box who’s free, he’s got so much time and must score… He does! Keeper gets a hand to it but it’s 2! How many are Gainsborough going to get here tonight? 0-2!
The game has slowed down a bit but Gainsborough still looking the superior of the 2 teams so far and I expect more goals from them.
29 minutes now and Bawtry win it upfield, number 15 plays it across to number 4 who shoots from distance… Wide! Better from Bawtry!
3 minutes later and Gainsborough’s number 11 is away down the right and he’s beaten the offside trap, he bares down on goal… It’s saved! That should be 3 easily! Corner, in it comes… Cleared by Bawtry.
37 minutes on the watch and Bawtry have it on the left, it’s played into the box, it’s come for number 9 and he’s beaten the defender… AND HE’S SCORED! Brilliant finish! That wasn’t expected was it?! 1-2!
Bawtry are starting to come on a lot better than they started as the half goes on but at half time it remains 1-2.
Second half, 59th minute and Gainsborough break forward down the left, it’s played across to number 16 running into the box and he shoots first time… And he finds the net! Good finish again! 1-3!
2 minutes later and Gainsborough win it in midfield and it’s played through to number 10 who’s in… And he finishes! 1-4! That should be the game now for Gainsborough!
1 minute after that and Bawtry come forward down the left, they find space and it’s played in to number 17 in the box on the left, he’s got a sight of goal… And he finishes! 2-4! What a couple of minutes that was! Are Bawtry still believing here?
68th minute and Gainsborough are in again, number 6 is played through and he’s around the keeper… Tight angle… He hits the side netting… Big chance!
74 minutes on the watch and Bawtry long ball towards number 9 on the right running in and he’s in… He’s missed! What a chance!
85 minutes gone and Bawtry play a ball over the top down the right, number 9 will get there with the keeper off his line… He’s lobbed him and he’s scored! 3-4! Do we have a grandstand finish here?!
Into the 90th minute and Bawtry play a ball over the top into the box and they’ll get there, it’s set up for number 17 to SHOOT… OH! It’s deflected over! They have a corner and up comes the keeper, in it comes… Gainsborough clear and force Bawtry back… That’s it! The Referee blows for full time! A good game in the end!

- Atmosphere: 1/10 – Hardly anyone here…
- The Ground: 1/10 – Really don’t like these 3G cages… Could only watch it from one end of the ground with the rest being outside the cage… Not for me sadly. I’d much prefer if it was on the athletics ground or even in Bawtry itself. Fingers crossed the club can find a better facility closer to home one day!
- Expense: 10/10 – I spent nothing tonight!
- Overall Experience: 4/10 – Despite the scoreline I really couldn’t get into the game unfortunately… I’m sure I would have done in a better ground than a cage and I don’t want to blame the weather too much but I’ve just had better days…
