Cantley Park, home of Bessacarr FC based in Doncaster, South Yorkshire and play their trade in the Central Midlands League. A free Tuesday this week which can mean only one thing!! Bessacarr are at home to Glapwell and straight to the train station I go!!
Arrival at the ground with 5 minutes to spare! Free Entry to this Central Midlands tie! You bet! Kick Off! More groundhoppers at the ground tonight! It’s quickly becoming a habit this and I love it!! A bright start for Glapwell here tonight who are taking the game to Bessacarr. 8 minutes in and a long ball forward by Glapwell, Bessacarr’s number 17 gets there and plays it back to the keeper… But it’s a poor pass and Glapwell’s number 9 is onto it… A poor touch and the keeper gets there and clears.
10 minutes on the watch and Glapwell come forward again, they have the ball on the left, through ball in to number 10 who takes a touch and shoots… Keeper saves! 14 minutes gone and Bessacarr have the ball now, it’s a great one touch passing move here, played through into the box on the right and played across to number 12… AND WHAT A GOAL THAT IS!!!! A great passing move finished off there by number 12! Brilliant!!
Glapwell are shell shocked… But can they respond? 28 minutes gone and Glapwell have possession, a chipped through ball to number 11 who runs onto it, he goes for goal… He pulls it wide. The game has fizzled out into a game of little chances which suits Bessacarr an awful lot. The Bessacarr keeper acting as a sweeper on many occasions in the first half is certainly help them maintain their lead.
39 minutes on the clock and Bessacarr come forward, number 11 is played through and he’s onside, he runs in and squares it to number 9… Oh he’s missed!! Great block by the Glapwell defender and it is a corner… But the Referee has gone over to his assistant… No corner and a very late offside is given, Bessacarr not happy… The score at half time remained 1-0.
Second half, a very poor half so far with little chances but the game is heating up ever so slowly with Glapwell becoming frustrated and flying in with tackles. A lot of shouting from both team benches! The referee is struggling to control this game and with no cards given, it will not get any easier. 67 minutes and a free kick to Glapwell, the ball is lumped into the box, header across to number 7… Straight at the keeper!
70 minutes gone and Glapwell come forward again and are starting to chase the game, Bessacarr clear but number 3 for Glapwell picks it up and drives down the left, he crosses, number 10 is there on the volley… GOAL! It’s 1-1!! Great finish into the bottom corner there and the brave keeper is beaten.
78 minutes gone and Glapwell with the ball in the centre of the park, a foul on Glapwell’s number 4 by Bessacarr’s number 11 greeted by huge shouts and oh dear… Number 4 for Glapwell has gone in with his head there whilst getting up… Bessacarr’s bench are angry at that!! “Get him off ref!!” What’s the Referee going to about it? He’s having a word… No card given… Bessacarr very angry at that decision! One of the team’s coaching staff talking to me and the other groundhoppers nearby venting his frustrations.
The game continuing to be a feisty affair and I have to say it has been a poor outing for the Referee… 88 minutes now and Glapwell have a throw-in in the Bessacarr half, in it comes, headed on and here’s number 9!! Good save by the keeper! It is a corner, here it is, number 5 is there… It’s over the bar!
Both sides now appealing for full time as it seems we have played over the 90 minutes now, a winning goal in this game could spark off some disgraceful scenes here I’d say. A throw-in for Bessacarr in their own half, in it comes, the Referee blows for full time! Phew!

- Atmosphere: 2/10 – Not many in attendance but the shouting and appealing created a tense atmosphere at the game today which made it very interesting as it went on.
- The Ground: 1/10 – It is a field in the middle of a Golf Course… However, the coach that spoke to us during the game did say that the club has plans to move up the pyramid and with that there are plans to build on this site! It could be a different setting in 5 years potentially! A re-visit may be needed for then!
- Expense: 10/10 – It wasn’t the best game but I did see 2 goals and a feisty last 30 minutes and that I can always be fortunate for!
- Overall Experience: 6/10 – Another decent day meeting other groundhoppers but the game and the ground were underwhelming sadly.
