Leeds United the visitors today in this 2pm Super Sunday kick off! Match Days Joe’s proposition earlier in the week has certainly got me excited!! Noted as a happy place by some… Let’s hope it’s a happy place for us today!
On the train to Leeds I go to meet Match Days Joe… Should have got an earlier train I think… It’s rammed with Leeds fan on here! I’ve missed the rammed trains but I also haven’t missed it in a way! 1 hour later and here we are at Burnley Manchester Road station. Now for the walk to the ground.
£35 to get into this Premier League tie! Ok then! In we go! First Premier League game for me since Liverpool Vs Wolves in December 2019, first Premier League ground since Leicester City in March 2020! The atmosphere is building in the ground between both sets of fans now! “We are Leeds! We are Leeds! We are Leeds!” along with “Come on Burnley!” Leeds respond with “Marching on together!” Boos ringing around the ground to that one…
Kick Off! “We all hate Leeds scum!” It was only a matter of time before that one came around… “We love you Burnley! We do!” Where have I heard that chant before? I swear some lads on the back of a bus in Malia blasted that one out years ago…
12 minutes in and Burnley come forward with Gudmundsson down the right, he crosses in towards the back post… Keeper collects! “We are Leeds! We are Leeds! We are Leeds!” Leeds fans going for it still! “da da dadada dadadada Burnley!” The home crowd trying still too!
26 minutes in and Burnley have a free kick on the right, it’s crossed in… It comes for Ben Mee and he shoots… And scores… But the Referee has blown for a foul on the Leeds man and it won’t count. 27th minute and Burnley come forward, it’s played through to Ashley Barnes and he’s in… Keeper makes the save but it’s loose… Barnes chases it and… It’s a crunching tackle on the Leeds man… Yellow card is the decision! A fair one I think.
31st minute and Burnley play a long ball forward, Chris Wood wins it and gets it down, Burnley work it forward, it comes to Ashley Barnes on the edge of the box, he plays it forward for Gudmundsson in the box who shoots first time… He’s missed!! He should have scored there!
35 minutes on the clock and Leeds come forward now, long ball forward from the left falls to Bamford, he plays it across to Rodrigo, he plays in Raphinha… OH HE’S PUT IT WIDE!! What an absolute sitter!! Through on goal and he rolls it wide… Should do better for certain there!
The game is opening up and a goal isn’t too far away surely! 39 minutes now and Leeds come forward down the left, it’s played across and reaches Patrick Bamford… Poor first touch and the keeper collects it. 40th minute and Burnley come down the right now, crossed in towards Ashley Barnes who goes for the volley… Keeper saves! Corner for Burnley, in it comes… Header! Just over!
42 minutes gone and Leeds have a corner now, in it comes… Headed on and it falls for Jack Harrison in the box… Off the line!! Big block that! Both teams looking good at the moment but the score at half time remained goalless… Somehow!
Second half, “We all love Leeds!” and “Come on Burnley!” The atmosphere is still here! The game has fizzled out right now with no one creating a clear cut chance for now. 59th minute and Burnley come forward, ball played to Josh Brownhill 30 yards out, he shoots… Wide.
61 minutes on the watch and it’s a corner for Burnley, in it comes… Headed in by Tarkowski… Off the bar! Burnley get the loose ball and play it back in, it come for Brownhill in the box to shoot… Blocked! It comes out to the right for Burnley to retrieve, crossed back in, it falls to Matt Lowton who shoots… Chris Wood gets a touch… Keeper has lost it… It’s in!!! It’s rolled in!!! And Burnley lead here!! Chris Wood against his old club!
Leeds fans gutted now, they’re probably thinking I love football but not Burnley, Burnley can f*** off! As a wise man said not so long ago! “In our Lancashire homes!” Burnley fans loving it now! 74 minutes and Leeds come forward down the left, it’s crossed in low towards Bamford… Ben Mee gets there and… He clears! Just in time! Burnley beware here!
Leeds are piling on the pressure now as Burnley sit back. 86 minutes now and here come Leeds again down the right, it’s crossed in low, it’s blocked but it comes back to Jamie Shackleton who fires in… Blocked and it falls to Patrick Bamford! He’s got it!! He scores! And Leeds fans go crazy! They have deserved it you have to say! 1-1!
87th minute and Burnley come forward now, it’s played forward to Matej Vydra, he gets his shot away… Good save by Meslier! Leeds piling on the pressure now for a winner but they wouldn’t get it in the end…

- Atmosphere: 6/10 – Both sets of fans did ok today! I’d say Leeds were just better but it was decent from both.
- The Ground: 10/10 – It’s a fantastic ground and I love it! It’s got character and a great backdrop from the top tiers and it is a proper football ground!
- Expense: 7/10 – £35 is a bit much but it was an open game and we got goals and thankfully a bit of drama at the closing stages!
- Overall Experience: 7.5/10 – I enjoyed it today! Great to see Match Days Joe again and it was a good game and a good tick for us!
