Bury FC Women

Gigg Lane, home of Bury FC Women based in Greater Manchester and play their trade in the Lancashire FA Women’s County League.

Also the home of Bury FC who sadly were thrown out of the Football League due to financial reasons… They haven’t kicked a ball since 2019… Bury AFC have been formed since and play at Radcliffe FC leaving this ground with only the Women’s team playing in it. There was a chance to merge and get themselves together to mount a fightback up the Football Pyramid… But they voted against it… Oh Bury! Will we ever see Bury FC again in the Football League?

A rare morning away from home after the work’s annual business conference in the Pennine Manor Hotel just off the M62 with a view of Halifax in the distance. Quite high up as well. Breakfast on the company? Can’t complain with that! Eggs Benedict for the win! The fresh air is certainly what the doctor ordered and a little visitor as well!

Only half an hour’s drive away from Gigg Lane for Bury FC Women vs Stanwix FC Girls & Ladies. This may be my only chance to see Gigg Lane but hopefully a time will come again when we see a near full stadium but for now it’s onto the M62 and off at the M66 and into the ground’s car park with around 25 minutes till kick off.

How do we get in then…? Through the reception it seems. This is very nice! The changing rooms on one side and a bar on the pitchside. Very official! Up the steps and this will do for a view. Out come the teams, let’s make it a good gig at Gigg Lane!

Kick Off! Straight away and Bury’s number 9 gets it back from the defender and drives forward and shoots from just outside the box… Just wide!

6th minute and Bury’s number 9 gets the ball on the left and she drives at goal, she’s in… And she finishes! Good finish! 1-0! Goal at Gigg Lane!

Great to meet John here today who has some cracking stories of the World Cup in 1966 just like my good mate Stefan! Football in the USA as well! Potential FANA Fan Podcast episode? Fingers crossed!

20 minutes in now and Bury play a short corner, it’s played in now, keeper comes… Misses it and it’s loose… It falls for number 7 at the back post… Who puts it away! It’s 2-0! Bury are cruising here!

3 minutes later and Stanwix come forward, it’s played to number 5 and she is away down the left, she’s past the defender, she gets into the box and beats another defender, she’s in… OH! What a save! It’s not over yet as she gets it back and gets a shot away on the turn… It’s blocked and the keeper gets a hand to it and bury clear.

The stories of John are certainly keeping this one going as nothing is really happening in the game… Nothing at all… 2-0 at half time.

Second half, 49th minute and it’s a corner for Bury, in it comes… The keeper has missed it and it’s a scramble… And it’s rolled in! The crowd doesn’t know it yet… They do now! Didn’t see who scored but it’s 3-0! That could be the game for Bury.

58 minutes now and Bury’s number 9 is away again, she gets into the box on the left and she’s in… She’s hit it straight at the keeper but she’ll get the rebound… On the volley and over! That should’ve been a goal!

3 minutes later and Bury come forward again, it’s played through to number 17 in the box on the left, she goes for goal… And she finds the net at the near post! 4-0! Too easy! The keeper left her near post well open there…

65 minutes now and Stanwix play it through to number 11 and she’s in… She’s put it wide! Stanwix with a guilt edge chance there to get back into this.

73rd minute and Bury are playing it around their own box and they lose it, it comes to Stanwix’s number 5 in the box on the left and she shoots… It’s wide! Bury will concede soon if they mess around like that!

86 minutes on the clock and Bury come again, it’s played to number 9 just inside the box with space and she shoots… Good save! Keeper stretched but she got there! Play goes on… Bury settle for 4 here today!

FT: Bury FC Women 4-0 Stanwix FC Girls & Ladies
