Western Lane, home of Buxworth FC based in the High Peak, Derbyshire and they play their trade in the Hope Valley League. Another Monday, another Hope Valley game!! But it could be the last one of this season… If it is, what a start to this league I have had over the past few weeks!! Dove Holes the visitors to Buxworth tonight.
On the train to Chinley and then the long walk to the ground. A beautiful walk I must say!! About half an hour later and here we are! Cricket game on the other side as well! Sports!!!!! Beautiful views!! The Hope Valley really is something else!! Free Entry to this one! Fantabulous!! And great to see Tony yet again tonight!!
Kick Off! 5 minutes in and Dove have a corner, in it comes, dangerous, keeper punches… Unconvincingly and it’s pinball in the 6 yard box… Number 11 for Dove is there… Good block at point blank there and now Buxworth break, goes down the right and here comes the cross, number 10 goes for it… He can’t get enough on it and the keeper collects.
11 minutes gone now and Buxworth have the ball on the right, it’s played inside and comes to number 7, 30 yards out and he goes for it… Deflected… Keeper spills it, number 12 is running in for Buxworth… Gets there first and goes down… Referee waves it away! Buxworth not happy and I wouldn’t be neither…
23 minutes now and Buxworth with possession in midfield, chipped through ball to number 10 and he breaks through, no flag here, defender gets there and brings him down recklessly… “No!” Says the Referee. Definite Penalty for me that! Poor decision from the Referee for me there…
Buxworth are looking the better of the 2 teams just, with Dove Holes showing a danger to the Buxworth defence. 32 minutes gone and Buxworth win the ball in midfield, long ball forward to number 11, he jostles with the defender as they run into the box, he gets a shot away… Keeper gets a hand to it and Dove clear.
36 minutes and Dove lose the ball in midfield again, a long ball through to number 12 and he’s in… He rolls it in and Buxworth have the lead!! 1-0! Good finish! The game has become a feisty affair but at half time the score remained 1-0.
Second half, 1 minute in and Dove Holes have a throw in on the right hand side, a long throw in to the box, Buxworth don’t deal with it and it comes to number 16 at the far post… He’s put it over inside the 6 yard box… Sitter! Should be 1-1! 1 minute later and here come Buxworth, the ball is played to number 12 and he drives forward, gets to the edge of the box and fires it… BOOM!!! Eat that!! Great strike and that is 2-0 to Buxworth!
52 minutes on the clock now and Buxworth come down the right, number 11 has it and gets into the box, he shoots… Oh he should have scored there… He’s put it over instead! 54th minute and Dove have a goal kick, a poor pass straight to Buxworth and here they come again, number 11 gets it and plays it to number 10, 11 gets it back and gets into the box on the right, he goes for the curler on the outside of the boot… OH! That’s fantastic!! Brilliant finish!!! And that is 3-0!!
2 minutes later and Buxworth come forward again, a through ball to number 10 and he’s in a good position here… Very good! And he scores!! He slots it under the keeper and that is 4 for Buxworth!! On the hour mark and Buxworth have it on the right, number 11 has it and he gets past his man and into the box, defender slides in and brings him down… Referee says no again!!! Another stone wall Penalty there for me!
It hasn’t been a 4-0 game on the basis of play for me but Buxworth have been better in front of goal and it’s looking like one of those nights for Dove Holes sadly for them. 76 minutes now and number 11 for Buxworth down the right again, he cuts inside and shoots… Off the top of the bar and out… So close there!
85th minute now and Dove have a throw in on the right, thrown in to the box, a push from behind on the Dove Holes man and he goes down… Penalty!! Says the Referee! A bit harsh considering Buxworth have had 3 definite Penalties waved away but I do agree with the Referee this time, it was a sure Penalty that for me!
Number 10 steps up for Dove Holes… Saved by the keeper… Number 10 is there for the rebound… He scores!!! Couldn’t miss! And Dove Holes have one back! 4-1! Buxworth tried to get a fifth but would ultimately not. Game over! And now the long walk back to Chinley station.

- Overall Experience: 8/10 – Great to see Tony again and meet other groundhoppers tonight!! A great game in a great place too! And possibly the best walk to a ground I’ve ever taken!!
