My first game of the Staton Mortgages Invitational Cup and it is just in time as tonight’s game is the final!!! Taking place at Debdale Park and the home team Sherwood Colliery have made it there along with Selston FC. Let’s hope for a good game!!

Train to Worksop and then on to Mansfield Woodhouse and here we are! The ground located right next to Mansfield Woodhouse train station making it easy! £3 to get into this cup final! Sweet AF!!

Kick Off! Delighted to meet Max & Emma of Emma’s Ground Guide tonight who were also episode 9 of the FANA Fan Podcast Season 1! Along with a ground hop host named Rob!

Best seat in the house?

A very slow start to this final… Who dares wins? 13 minutes in and Sherwood come forward, the ball is on the left now and a deep cross is played in, Tim Gregory is there at the back post… Oh! He’s headed it over… Big chance there! And back to the bore fest… 2 really good defences out there at the moment sadly for the neutrals here tonight…

33 minutes now and Sherwood play forward but Selston clear but not far enough as Sherwood win it back, a through ball to Ryan Ingram, no flag here and he’s in… OH NO! He’s hit the post!! And the ball rolls straight into the keeper’s grasp. 37 minutes now and Selston have a corner, in it comes, over the keeper, it comes to Rhys Dolan, poor touch but he gets there again!! Side netting… Close!

1 minute later and up the other end now, Ryan Ingram is played through again and he’s broken free… Shot saved by the keeper but it comes to Will Norcross for the rebound!! OH DEAR!! He’s somehow blazed it over and into the trees! Massive chance there! The good defences carrying on now and at half time the score remained 0-0.

Second half, 48th minute and Selston have it down the left, a high cross into the box, a tussle in the box, Jordan Black gets his head to it… Oh! Just wide! Inches away! 1 minute later and Sherwood come down the left, played in to Tim Gregory, he makes space and shoots… Blocked by the defender and it goes into the air, Charlie Taylor jumps up for it for Sherwood… AND HE HEADS HOME!!! Sherwood have the lead in the final!! 1-0!

64 minutes on the clock now and Sherwood play it long, Gareth Curtis gets onto it and he’s onside, he runs in, sets himself and goes for goal… Straight at the keeper. 1 minute later and Sherwood hit it long again, Tim Gregory has got it and he’s through… Good save by the keeper! Selston clear.

67 minutes and Sherwood have the ball in the Selston half, Ben Moore comes in for Selston… He dives in recklessly, Sherwood not happy, players coming in with disgust, the Referee has a decision to make here… Yellow card! The Referee is going over to the Selston bench now, he’s taking his time over this… There’s a red card!! A word said there from one of the Selston substitutes and he’s walking!

72 minutes gone and Sherwood clear the danger from the Selston attack, a long clearance finds it’s way to Tim Gregory on the right, he plays it to Will Norcross on the edge of the box and he shoots… Keeper saves! A swerving shot there! Corner for Sherwood, in it comes… Cleared by Selston.

75 minutes now and Sherwood play another long ball forward, Selston don’t deal with it and Gareth Curtis gets onto it, he drives into the box and he goes for it… AND SCORES!!! Great finish at the near post! And is that the goal that wins it for Sherwood?

76th minute and Selston have the ball in midfield, a long ball forward… Oh dear! Ewan Robson has played the ball with his hand there, the Referee has given a free kick on the edge of the box, what is the decision going to be here? Yellow Card! Lucky boy there I think! Referee blows his whistle, Selston play it short, Sherwood get there and clear… Waste of a free kick…

Selston piling on the pressure but can’t quite make the breakthrough. The Referee blows for full time and Sherwood Colliery are the Champions!!

FT: Sherwood Colliery 2-0 Selston
