Chesterfield Panthers Rugby Club, also the home of Chesterfield Ladies FC based in Derbyshire and compete in the East Midlands Women’s Regional Football League Premier Division.
The East Midlands Women’s League season is back underway! A short trip for me to Chesterfield today to see Chesterfield Ladies vs Oughtibridge War Memorial Women who I have come across twice in the past. The first one being that sizzling game against Dronfield Town in the cup finishing 7-4 and the second one being a 0-0 against Mansfield Town Ladies. Let’s hope for some goals today!
Straight on the road through Woodseats, past Meadowhead roundabout and on to the dual carriageway and here I am on Dunston Road with about 10 minutes to go before kick off. Free Entry here! Buzzing! Out come Chesterfield to an applause from the fans here today.
Kick Off! Chesterfield starting the better here. 6 minutes in and Chesterfield play a long ball forward to Georgina Williams in the box on the left, she shoots… Saved! Chesterfield still have it, it’s played to Williams again who shoots again… Brilliant save by the keeper who tips it wide for a corner, in comes the corner… It falls for Chesterfield and the shot comes in… Over!
12th minute and Chesterfield play down the left, they drive into the box and it’s squared to Maddi Frances-Creaser… Who scores!! It’s been coming! Chesterfield lead here! “YOU BLUES!” A few fans on the banking delighted with that one! It’s 1-0!
24th minute and the ball is with the Chesterfield keeper who plays it to the defender with Oughtibridge pressing the ball… Chesterfield lose it and number 5 shoots from 20 yards for Oughtibridge… And scores!! Chesterfield punished! The keeper should have booted it there for me! Oughtibridge are level! 1-1!
Chesterfield are still looking good and are pushing for their lead back. 39th minute and Chesterfield play a through ball to Georgia Wilson in the box and she’s in… And she finishes… No! The flag is up! No goal!
Right on half time now and Chesterfield play the ball forward to Georgina Williams and she’s through on goal here, the keeper charges out… Williams gets there first and pokes it past her and……… YES! Chesterfield lead again! 2-1! And that is how it stayed at half time.
Second half, 50th minute and Chesterfield play the ball into the box but Oughtibridge will deal with it… Or maybe not as the clearance comes straight to number 20 in the box on the left, she plays it across looking for Williams but it’s too much and it rolls away for a goal kick.
59th minute and Chesterfield bomb down the left flank with Georgina Williams, it’s worked across to Georgia Wilson who has got plenty of time in the box… OH! She’s blazed it over! Massive chance for Chesterfield there!
64th minute and Chesterfield have a corner, in it comes… It comes to the back post and it’s volleyed… Over! That bounced just at the wrong time there but Chesterfield are pushing for a third here.
76 minutes now and the Chesterfield keeper plays the ball out… But it’s a poor ball and Oughtibridge’s number 9 has it and goes for goal from 25 yards… Over! They’ve got away with it this time.
84 minutes and Chesterfield play down the right wing, it’s crossed in and here’s number 7 who controls and shoots… Good save again! Chesterfield get it back and it’s played across to Georgia WIlson and she gets here shot away… And she gets her goal!!! Chesterfield have surely won their first game of the season here! 3-1!
Play goes on… But there will be no more goals here! 3 points for Chesterfield!

- Atmosphere: 3/10 – A very friendly atmosphere here today! A few happy fans giving it a bit of a go especially after Chesterfield scored!
- The Ground: 6/10 – It’s a really good setup! Lovely views of the Derbyshire countryside and I love grounds with bankings especially behind the goals just like at Pinxton! Lovely clubhouse too! I do think it could be better if they put in a little stand somewhere though.
- Expense: 10/10 – £0!!
- Overall Experience: 6/10 – A decent game here today and I’m glad I have visited!
