Kingsmark Way, home of Dearne & District based in Goldthorpe, Barnsley, South Yorkshire. They play their trade in the Doncaster Saturday League. It’s a first for me today, the first time I have been invited personally to cover a team!! Does that make me a VIP? It’s the last home game of the season for Dearne today and the visitors today are ISG Doncaster FC who are bottom of the league with Dearne in third. Who’s your money on today?
An early arrival into Goldthorpe, time for a pit stop! The Rusty Dudley for a few pre match refreshments and off I go to the ground! Free Entry for this Doncaster League tie! And 2 free beers courtesy of Dearne’s manager! Oh it’s beautiful, magical!!! I am delighted to be joined by Graham K now who I have met at many groundhops, great to see him again!!
Kick Off! 4 minutes in and Dearne have a free kick inside ISG’s half, the ball is lumped into the box, here’s number 5 with the header!! 1-0!! Great header! And Dearne have the lead!! It’s a very even game with both teams having a fair share of possession. 11 minutes on the clock and Dearne play forward, the ball is played to number 8, he gets past his man and he’s through… He’s put it over… Should have done better there!
The game has settled down again with both teams enjoying spells of possession but no creativity at the moment sadly. 33 minutes gone now and Dearne have a corner, in it comes, cleared by ISG and now they break forward, a great move and they play the ball down the right hand side, it is played across to number 10 in the box… OH WHAT A SAVE!!! Tipped onto the bar by the Dearne keeper!! Fantastic goalkeeping!! A round of applause from the fans in attendance today and rightly so!
37 minutes on the watch and Dearne have a throw in on the right, in it comes, they get the ball down the right and the cross comes in, number 11 is there on the volley!! OH BRILLIANT FINISH!!! A great volley there and it’s 2-0 to Dearne & District!!! The game continuing to be a good battle but no more goals before half time and the score remains 2-0.
Second half, 51 minutes now and Dearne have possession, a long ball forward, headed across to number 9 who goes for it on the turn on the edge of the box… Just wide! So close! 2 minutes later and ISG have the ball on the right, Dearne’s number 5 wins it back and plays a long through ball to number 11 down the left, he gets there and goes for a curling shot… He’s hit the post! So close again!
56 minutes on the clock now and ISG have a corner, in it comes, it falls to number 17 who shoots… Good block but he gets it back and shoots again… He’s scored!!! 2-1!! Game on!!! It’s an end to end affair now but no real clear cut chances to get the next goal should there be a next goal.
78 minutes gone and Dearne are on the attack again, number 10 receives it, he goes forward and plays a 1-2, he gets it back and goes for goal on the edge of the box… And finds it!!! It’s 3-1! And is that the goal that wins it for Dearne?
81 minutes in now and ISG are looking to respond, they have it down the right and here comes the cross, over everyone and it comes to number 16 and he shoots… Good save by the keeper! And Dearne clear. ISG keep coming forward but would not get another goal sadly for them.

- Atmosphere: 1/10 – A lot in attendance today but no real feel to it sadly.
- The Ground: 5/10 – It’s a great little setup for this level, a decent little stand and a nice bar with outdoor seating! A good facility all in all.
- Expense: 10/10 – Free entry for 4 goals and 2 free beers! Great BBQ as well! It should be 11!
- Overall Experience: 9/10 – I had a good time today! A massive thank you to Keelan, the Dearne & District manager for inviting me and paying for 2 free drinks for me!! A great game today as well!
