The Avenue Stadium, home of Dorchester Town based in Dorset and play their trade in Step 3 of the Non League Pyramid in the Southern League Premier Division South. Nicknamed the “Magpies” and I’m sure you can guess what that means!
Back to the Counties challenge and it’s a long one today! Dorset! One I haven’t ever set foot in and one I wanted to tick off immediately and it’s also a ground I have had on my radar for a while so onto the M1, to the M42 onto the M5 onto the A37 and into the ground in good time!

Kick Off! 11 minutes in and Dorchester get into the box on the right, it’s played across the six yard box… It’s cleared! Close!
22 minutes now and Dorchester have a corner, in it comes… It’s pinball… It falls for Ngalo to shoot… Blocked! Brave defending there from Hayes & Yeading!
5 minutes later and Hayes & Yeading have it on the right, it’s played into the box and they’ve got a man free at the back post… Who’s missed! big chance there!
44th minute and it’s another corner for Dorchester, in it comes… The header… It’s there! It’s Will Spetch with the free header to give Dorchester the lead! 1-0! That’s how it stays at half time.
Second half, the Dorchester crowd are getting behind their team well so far but the rain is pouring down hard here…
54th minute and Hayes & Yeading have it down the right, it’s played across low and here’s Michael Fernandes… It’s there! They’re level! Dorchester want Offside but they aren’t getting it! 1-1!
61 minutes on the watch and Dorchester have a corner, in it comes… Uh-oh! Was the Dorchester man brought down there…? Yes! Penalty! The Hayes man will be shown a Yellow Card there… But so will the Dorchester man who gave a thumbs up for doing so but it’s his second Yellow… It’s all kicking off now…
It’s Shaquille Gwengwe who will step up for Dorchester… He’s missed! So close to the top corner but it’s not gone there! It’s still 1-1!
82nd minute now and Dorchester have a free kick right on the edge of the box, it’s Moore who will take… Over!
tensions in the stands now between the Dorchester fans… It’s all going a bit mad now! Too negative to this that and the other… It does finish 1-1 in the midst of all that.

- Atmosphere: 6/10 – Really good in the second half but nothing much in the first. The game certainly helped that!
- The Ground: 10/10 – Love it! Got everything you need to go to the National league but not so much the Football League. Looks great from the outside and the stands around the ground give it an old school look!
- Expense: 8/10 – A lot on fuel and £14 is a bit steep for this level despite the drama.
- Overall Experience: 9/10 – Really enjoyed that but just wish that Dorchester had won it!
