Golcar United

Longfield Avenue, home of Golcar United based near Huddersfield, West Yorkshire and play their trade in the North West Counties Football League First Division North. It’s the Yorkshire Trophy again today and Golcar is the chosen destination and they are home to Nostell Miners Welfare.

Off to Huddersfield I go and straight to the Plumbers Arms to watch Brentford Vs Bournemouth in the second leg of the Championship Play Offs. A very feisty affair this game, lets hope Golcar and Nostell are like this later on!! I am now joined in the bar by Luke who I have watched my last 2 Saturday’s games with!! Today is going to be a good day!! Brentford are going to Wembley!! And now me and Luke are going to Golcar!

£5 to watch this Yorkshire Trophy tie! Ok cool! Kick Off! A bright start for Nostell here! 3 minutes in and they come forward, the ball falls to Joe Wood on the edge of the box and he goes for goal… Keeper parries… It’s a goal!!! Anees Younis slides in with the Golcar defender and gets there first to put it away and Nostell lead here!! Great start for Nostell!

A very competitive game now with little chances but both teams enjoying a fair share of the ball. 19 minutes gone and Golcar play a chipped through ball to Buddy Cox and he gets onto it in the box, he goes down… “No Penalty!” Says the Referee! I thought it was myself… 2 minutes later and the ball is safely with the Golcar defence, the ball is played back to the keeper, he plays it forward… Oh no he’s made a mess of it, Anees Younis has intercepted his pass and he squares it to Danny Edwards… The keeper recovers and saves!

Still an even game after that chance with little to scream about. 35 minutes gone now and Golcar have the ball on the right hand side, the ball is played to Alex Hallam, 30 yards out and he shoots… OH WHAT A GOAL!!!!! Right into the top corner!! Perfection!! And it’s 1-1!! 39 minutes on the clock and Nostell have it now down the left, the ball is crossed, the Golcar defence miss it and Anees Younis gets to it, poor first touch but he gets there and shoots on the turn… OH IT’S IN!!! Right into the far corner and it’s 1-2!!! This game has exploded into life!!

2 minutes later and Golcar come forward now, Buddy Cox plays it to Ryan Wadsworth who chips it through to him and he gets to it in the box… AND FINISHES!!! What a game this is proving to be!! 2-2!!! Right on half time now and Golcar have the ball again, a long diagonal ball from the left, the ball is headed on and headed back y the Nostell defence and the ball falls to Ryan Wadsworth on the edge of the box, half volley on the turn! OH HE’S SCORED!!! WHAT A GOAL!!! A very hard goal to score but he’s done it and it’s 3-2!!! How has this happened??

That would be that for the first half with the score at 3-2 with the score at 0-1 10 minutes earlier! Football eh? I’m not the biggest food fan at football matches but I have been recommended a Pork Pie by a friend and I have to say, that is the BEST Pork Pie I have ever eaten!! For all you food & drink lovers at matches, have a Pork Pie at Golcar!!

Second half, an even start to the half with both teams enjoying the ball equally. 52 minutes gone and Golcar come forward again, a long ball forward towards Buddy Cox, he jostles with the Nostell defender and he wins it and he’s through on goal… Good save by the keeper!! 62 minutes on the clock now and Golcar are looking good now, a through ball to Buddy Cox again and he’s onside, same as 10 minutes ago and he’s through… And finishes!!! This time!!! And it’s 4!!!

69 minutes played now and Golcar looking really comfortable. A long ball played to Mike Fish but the ball is just too high and he chases it down to the left hand corner flag, he gets it and he beats his man and charges towards goal, he pulls it back to Alex Hallam… AND HE SCORES!!!! 5!!!!! Great finish!! It’s looking like a win for Golcar now!

77 minutes gone now and Golcar have a corner, in it comes, the keeper has missed it and here’s Buddy Cox sliding in… Oh it’s just wide… Should have been 6 in my opinion! Nostell enjoying a good spell of possession but are failing to break down Golcar here. Nostell would ultimately fail to break them down again after a great start to the game and would go on to lose 5-2.

FT: Golcar United 5-2 Nostell Miners Welfare
