Hall Road Rangers

Haworth Park, home of Hall Road Rangers based in Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire and play their trade in the Humber Premier League.

A club that has played as high as Step 5 in the past but it’s a different setting for the club in recent times. A respectable finish in the NCEL last season but sadly the club resigned from the league… But why?! Whatever the reason it certainly was a terrible shame and the club will also be merging with Westella & Willerby starting next season.

Time is running out but tonight Hall Road Rangers face LIV Supplies FC in the Whitehead Fish & Chips Cup (what a name by the way!) in the Second Round. It’s now or never for me to visit so let’s head up the M18 and onto the M62. Here we are in the car park with about 15 minutes to go before kick off.

Free Entry to this one! Yippee! Hall Road are out and ready but what about LIV Supplies…?! Time ticks on and it’s now 7:33pm… Here they come at last. It’s time for the Fish & Chips cup to commence but who has the strongest Salt & Vinegar?!

Kick Off! 8 minutes in and LIV play forward, it comes for number 9 in the box on the right and he’ll shoot… SAVED! Keeper gets his foot to it and Hall Road clear.

15th minute and it’s a corner for Hall Road, in it comes… It’s headed on and here’s number 8 at the back stick to shoot… Blocked and it’s loose on the goalmouth… The Referee blows for a foul for LIV in the melee there.

34 minutes now and Hall Road give it away in their own half and LIV’s number 9 is away, he gets into the box on the left and he gets a shot away… But it’s forced wide with the defender getting back. Good defending and well recovered. A poor first half ends 0-0…

Second half… Hasn’t really improved on the first in all fairness… 63 minutes gone and Hall Road have a free kick on halfway, it’s lumped into the box, number 8 wins the header… IT’S THERE! It’s looped over the keeper and it’s landed in the net!! Brilliant header! 1-0!

72 minutes played now and LIV throw in from the right, it’s thrown into the box… That’s a push! The LIV striker goes down… Penalty! I agree! Number 9 to take… OFF THE BAR! Hall Road get there to clear. What a chance!

77 minutes on the watch and Hall Road’s number 12 chases the ball down the left, LIV’s number 2 gets there and he’s lying on the ball… That’s handball surely! He’s got up and grabbed number 12’s legs and kicked him he’s got to go surely! No cards given! Poor from the Referee there that is a certain Red!

83 minutes now and LIV play it forward, it’s come nicely for number 14 running into the box and he’s in… He lobs the keeper… And he’s scored!! They’re level!! 1-1!

Play goes on… It could be anybody’s game here……… But it will be a Penalty Shootout to decide this one! 2 Penalty Shootout’s in a row for me! Not many hoppers can say that I bet!

Hall Road will go first with number 4… Saved! It’s a poor Penalty! LIV’s number 5 is next… And he scores! 0-1!

Hall Road’s number 15 is next… Oooooh! Bottom corner! Keeper guessed right but it’s too good a Penalty that one! LIV’s number 11 steps up… It’s saved! It’s all level in the shootout now! 1-1!

Hall Road’s number 5… He scores! What about LIV’s number 14… He scores too! 2-2!

Hall Road’s number 8… Saved! Good save! LIV’s number 2 to give LIV match point here… He does!

Hall Road’s number 14 must score…

He does! But to win it for LIV now is the man who missed earlier in the day, it’s number 9 to send them through…

HE’S DONE IT!!! LIV win 4-3 on Penalties and are into the next round!

• Atmosphere: 1/10 – Very quiet here tonight sadly…
• The Ground: 6.5/10 – I like this little setup! Good for the junior sides as well. The balcony offers a great vantage point and the bar itself is really nice! It’s good here at Haworth Park!
• Expense: 10/10 – £40 in fuel but free entry is the winner here for Hall Road despite the poor game I did see a Penalty Shootout which I love as a neutral!
• Overall Experience: 7/10 – Not the best of games but I’m certainly relieved to add Hall Road Rangers and Haworth Park to the roll of honour!!
