Harworth Colliery

Scrooby Road, home of Harworth Colliery based in Nottinghamshire and play their trade in the Central Midlands League.

The first game in a league that entertained me and others well last season: The Central Midlands! Tonight it is Harworth Colliery vs Kiveton Miners Welfare and me and Match Days Joe will be there! Let’s roll!

Onto Sheffield Parkway, onto the M1, onto the M18 and onto the A1 and here I am at the ground with around 40 minutes to kick off. Out of my car I get and… “Hello Groundhopper!” It’s Mitchell who I met back in January at the Lincoln City Women game vs Doncaster Rovers Belles and it’s great to finally catch up!

£3 to watch this Central Midlands tie! Stupendous! Match Days Joe is here! His dad Dave is here! Mitchell is here! Paul is here with the gnome! Austin is here as well! Tonight is going to be fun! Only the game can let us down now!

Kick Off! 3 minutes in and it’s a bright start for Harworth who play it forward, it’s Lowe who flicks it on to Rio Allan for Harworth to chase, the keeper comes out… Allan gets there first and he’s past the keeper, he shoots straight away… And he’s put it wide… Big chance wasted early on!

8 minutes in and Kiveton play down the right hand side, it’s worked across the middle, it’s played to number 11 running in at the far post, the keeper stretches for it… He can’t get there and number 11 will… He’s missed… What a chance! He has to score there!

3 minutes later and Harworth work it down the right, it’s fizzed across goal… Kiveton clear for a corner, in it comes… Keeper punches away.

20th minute and Harworth play in a long throw in from the left, it’s headed on… The Referee has blown for a foul for climbing, it comes to Lowe for Harworth anyway… It’s a lovely finish but it won’t count sadly…

4 minutes later and Kiveton come forward, number 10 has it and he goes for goal from 30 yards out… WHAT A SAVE!! Tipped over brilliantly by Jacob Wildsmith in the Harworth goal! It is a corner for Kiveton, in it comes… Headed back to the corner taker, it’s played back for number 9 to volley from the edge of the box… Wide!

28 minutes on the clock and Harworth come forward, a long ball is played from the left towards Rio Allan for Harworth who controls… Oh no he’s fallen over! Sniper? Kiveton clear.

1 minute later and Harworth have a free kick on the right hand side, it’s whipped in to the box, keeper punches but Harworth get to the loose ball first, it comes to Sam Flower who diverts it towards goal… But it’s wide!

32nd minute and Harworth play in a long throw in from the left again, Lowe goes for the overhead kick… It comes off Kiveton’s number 5 and it’s gone in… But the Referee has blown for a foul for the high boot… No goal! A harsh decision there for me!

40 minutes now and Harworth play down the left wing, it’s played across to Cory Goodwin just inside the box to shoot first time… But his well placed effort wasn’t well placed enough! Wide!

44th minute and Kiveton have a corner, in it comes… Number 6 with the free header… Over! A very eventful half finishes 0-0… Surely that is the most eventful half I have ever seen to not have a goal!

Second half, 1 minute into the second half and Harworth play a long ball towards Dunbar who’s onside and he’s through on goal… He’s put his shot straight at the keeper! Big chance there!

2 minutes later and Harworth have a corner, in it comes… It’s come to Lowe at the back post… It’s off the line!! Harworth still have it… But Kiveton get the ball away from danger. There has to be a goal in this game!!!

53rd minute and Harworth have a free kick from around 30 yards out, Rio Allan will take it, he shoots… He’s hit the post!! Cory Goodwin is there for the rebound… He can’t get enough on it and the keeper gathers.

57 minutes gone and Harworth have a corner, in it comes… Bradley Johnston gets to it… So close! Just over!

2 minutes later and Harworth come forward again, the ball is played through to Rio Allan in the box on the right, he shoots… THERE IT IS!!! He scores! It’s through the keeper’s legs and the deadlock is finally broken! Harworth 1 Kiveton Miners Welfare 0. 1-0!

64th minute and Harworth come forward again, Rio Allan is played in on the right of the box again, he shoots… Keeper saves but Allan gets there for the rebound… It’s off the line but did it go over the line…? No! Says the Referee and Kiveton clear. Didn’t look in for me there either.

69th minute and Harworth give the ball away in their own half to Kiveton’s number 9, he plays it to number 16 and he drives into the box on the left, he goes for goal… Good save! Harworth clear.

Harworth continue to look the better team and are threatening the Kiveton goal but Kiveton are looking dangerous going forward, will there be another goal in this game?

88th minute and Harworth break forward from a Kiveton attack and Dunbar is played through, keeper charges well out of his goal… Dunbar gets there first… he gets to the edge of the box and shoots… What a block by Kiveton’s number 15! He’s stopped a certain goal there! It’s a corner for Harworth though, in it comes… Harvey Thomas with the header… It’s there!! Harworth have sealed the points now! 2-0! That would be the last action of the game! A good win for Harworth!

FT: Harworth Colliery 2-0 Kiveton Miners Welfare

Ratings

  • Atmosphere: 4/10 – A very vibrant atmosphere at Harworth tonight! A few jeers and cheers but overall very friendly here tonight!
  • The Ground: 8/10 – An outstanding setup! I love this ground! There isn’t too much here but they have made the most of what they have! I like the stands but I am a massive fan of the bar stand! That is one of the best bars I’ve seen at a ground! Brilliant thinking behind that! I’d say this ground is definitely fit for the Northern Counties should they get there one day! Well done Harworth!
  • Expense: 10/10 – £20 fuel, £3 entry, £3 pin badge and £3 burger. Was it worth it? Yes!
  • Overall Experience: 9/10 – A pleasure as always with Match Days Joe and great to see Dave, Mitchell, Paul and Austin tonight! I had a great laugh at a great game!
