Far Lane, home of Hepworth United based in Holmfirth, Kirklees, West Yorkshire and play their trade in the Sheffield & Hallamshire County Senior League Premier Division.
The end of the season draws nearer and nearer but there’s still time to try and tick off Hepworth United who I came to visit just a few weeks earlier to see them play Sheffield Town but unfortunately that day Sheffield Town didn’t show up leaving me, Chimay Bielsa and others leaving empty handed… Hopefully it will be warmer this time anyway!
Tonight they face South Kirkby Colliery with second place still in with a shout whereas South Kirkby lingering third from bottom, home banker?
The short journey from work across the B6106 and what a lovely little drive this is! Into the car park and this time there are 2 teams here already! Free entry to this one! Amazing!
The teams are on with their warm ups as I load up with a hot dog and tea. It’s now time for the game at last… 6:30pm on the clock with Futbology stating 6pm… Oh well!
Kick Off! 4 minutes in and it’s a Hepworth corner, in it comes… The header at goal… OFF THE LINE! The South Kirkby player goes down on the line… I think that was in the face! Hepworth put the ball out of play.
10 minutes now and Hepworth break down the left, it’s played across low, number 11 is there at the far post… SAVED! Good save!
1 minute later and Hepworth play a ball over the top and number 8 is away, he’s in… And he finds the net! Brilliant finish! Hepworth lead! 1-0!
15th minute and Hepworth play the ball through down the right, it’s played across, it’s dummied and here’s number 10… BANG! Get in! 2-0! Hepworth are causing all sorts of trouble to the South Kirkby backline!
36 minutes now and Hepworth play down the right again, it’s crossed in, it’s left for number 10 to shoot… OH! He’s missed the ball completely! South Kirkby clear.
40 minutes on the watch and Hepworth lose the ball at left back and number 11 gets into the box on the right and he’ll shoot… It’s saved! Big chance there wasted by South Kirkby. At half time it remains 2-0 to Hepworth.
Second half, 46 minutes now and Hepworth play down the right, it’s crossed in, number 9 is there at the far post… And he’s scored! Offside! No goal!
1 minute later and Hepworth’s number 17 battles with the defender, he’s past him and into the box on the right, he plays it across, number 10 is there… It’s a goal! It is 3-0 now!
57th minute and Hepworth play down the right, it’s played across low, it falls for number 15… And he’s missed an absolute sitter from about 6 yards! He’s skied it!
69 minutes gone and it’s a free kick on the right for Hepworth, it’s taken quickly, they’re in on the right of the box and it’s played across, number 4 is there… For number 4!! 4-0! Hepworth running riot now!
81 gone and Hepworth play down the left, number 15 drives into the box and plays it across, it comes for number 17… The shot is blocked but it comes to number 19, he makes space for the shot… Saved! South Kirkby force it behind for a goal kick somehow.
90th minute and Hepworth’s number 15 is played in and he’s onside, he’s around the keeper… And he seals a 5 star performance from Hepworth today! 5-0! That is the final action of the game as well!

- The Ground: 8.5/10 – Beautiful stunning glorious! There are other words I can use but it really is picturesque! It is on a hill though which I don’t particularly like but I also love the clubhouse! Amazing setup!
- Expense: 10/10 – £3 on food and drink and that was it!
- Overall Experience: 6/10 – Great to see this ground at last and add to the goal count!
