It’s third in the league vs seventh in the league as the season is fast approaching the business end! Horsham FC vs Carshalton Athletic! And for the first time ever, a ground in West Sussex!
So it’s all the way down the M1 and onto the M25… Cue the usual delays… Onto the A243 leading to the A24 and into the ground in good time! £13 for this game! A lot! A quick try of the Horsham brewed lager later and the players are ready! The stakes are high! Let’s hope for a cracker!
Kick Off! 5 minutes in and Carshalton have made a bright start to this game and have a free kick on the left hand side in a crossing position, it’s whipped in… It’s attacked… But the players miss it and it comes straight for the keeper… Uh-oh! He’s dropped it… And it’s turned in! Joseph Bell is there to put it home and Carshalton have a deserved early lead! 0-1!
“Horsham! Horsham! We all follow the yellow and the green! The Yellow and the green! The yellow and the green!” The Horsham fans are still in good spirits but their team on the other hand… Woeful! Carshalton are looking really good here!
38th minute and Carshalton have a free kick on the right, it’s whipped in… It’s headed up in the air… And it’s struck home! Carshalton have a got a second! Luke Read gets there first and finds the net! Horsham are really under the cosh now! 0-2!
Horsham growing into this game every so slightly but are deservedly 2-0 down at the break.
Second half, 55th minute and Carshalton’s Saunder Henry goes for goal from distance… It’s saved and out for a corner which is played short… Horsham deal with it and clear.
Horsham are looking a lot better than they did in the first half but just can’t quite find that final ball… Or have a shot!
81 minutes now and it’s Horsham down the left, it’s crossed in towards Lucas Rodrigues… YES! Horsham are back in it! Good finish! 1-2!
88th minute and Horsham are pressing now! They have it in the box on the right and it’s played in low… SURELY… It’s blocked again and Carshalton somehow get it clear! AND HOW?!
Horsham continue to press… But Carshalton hold on for the win!

- Atmosphere: 6/10 – Horsham fans are alright! Carshalton fans gave it a good go as well but nothing too deafening.
- The Ground: 8/10 – A lot of nice features! The club house, the main stand, the bars at the side and the barbecue! Definitely fit for the National League South!
- Expense: 8/10 – £13 a bit much for this level I think.
- Overall Experience: 6/10 – A good day all in all but a bit more drama at the end would’ve been nice!
