Laund Hill Community Club, home of Huddersfield Laund Hill based in West Yorkshire and play their trade in the West Yorkshire League Division Two. A special for me and the Merry Miller today as we visit what could be the last game at this ground as Huddersfield Laund Hill move on to a new ground.
It is a very special day here as players past and present of Huddersfield Laund Hill and Lower Hopton join together to use the power of football to raise money for a young boy needing medical treatment… Let us hope that today we can all raise those much needed funds!!
The journey to West Melton to pick up the Merry Miller and off we go up the M1 onto the M62… Oh no… An accident and we’re sitting in traffic… SIGH! Time is ticking and we need to move… We are now thankfully but we will be cutting it fine for kick off… Onto the M62 now and off we come at the ground! All parked up just in time for kick off! £5 from me on the Just Giving link! For a good cause!! Both teams today wearing a Huddersfield Laund Hill jersey today with the one team in Red & Black and the other in Blue.
Kick Off! Both teams enjoying spells of possession so far and it is looking like a slow paced outing for everyone involved so far. 19 minutes in and the Reds come forward, number 7 carries it forward and shoots from 20 yards… Over!
26 minutes on the clock and the Blues have a free kick in the Reds half, it’s whipped into the middle, the keeper comes for it… He’s dropped it… He claims the loose ball! It could’ve been so much worse…
2 minutes later and the Reds come forward down the right, it’s crossed in, it’s headed away but only to number 4, he gets past his man and he shoots on the volley… Saved!! It’s a corner for the Reds, in it comes… Cleared.
2 minutes after that and the Reds are looking good here now! Number 7 gets forward down the left and he gets into the box, he shoots… Saved by the keeper but it’s loose… Number 7 gets a cross in… The Blues get to it and clear.
32 minutes now and the Blues come forward now, it’s played to number 4 on the edge of the box, he chests it and shoots on the half volley… Oh brilliant!!! Great strike!! It’s 0-1!! 3 minutes later and the Reds come forward, number 7 gets into the box and he shoots… Keeper parries it and it’s loose… Number 9 gets to it and must score… He does! It’s the equaliser!! 1-1!!
42 minutes on the clock and the Reds come forward again, a great passing move sees them free in the box on the left, it’s played across goal… It’s bobbled away from the keeper and here’s number 7 for the Reds… And he bundles it in!!! 2-1!!
Into stoppage time in the first half and the Reds play forward again, it’s worked over the top to number 7, he chests it and shoots… He scores… But he’s Offside and it won’t count! That would be the last action of the first half with the score at 2-1! Off I go to the Cake sale in the bar!! 3 buns for £3 is a good deal for me… Not for my waistline though…
Second half… Delicious cakes!! 49th minute and the Reds play forward, it’s played to number 10 in the box on the right who plays it across to number 16… Who finishes!! It is 3-1 now!! Brilliant work!
2 minutes later and here come the Reds again, a through ball to number 10 in the box and he tries to go around the keeper… He’s brought down there… Penalty!! Definite for me! Number 6 steps up… And it’s a great Penalty!!! Keeper guessed right but no one is saving that one!! 4-1!!
The game has slowed down now with few opportunities for both. 72 minutes now and the Reds have made a change! Laund Hill’s youngest player has come on now! He gets onto the loose ball and he drives towards goal, he gets past the Blues defenders like they weren’t there! He plays a 1-2 in the box and he shoots… OH NO! He’s hit the post… What a goal that could’ve been…
2 minutes later and here he is again on the right, he cuts inside and gets into the box, he plays a 1-2 again across goal, he shoots… AND HE SCORES!!! This time!!! What a moment!!! 5-1!! Little number 7 proving he’s got a bright career ahead of him!
The goals are flying in this game now! 6-1! 6-2! 7-2! 8-2… And that is that!! A game that promised so little in the opening stages in the first half turning into a high scoring affair!!

- The Ground: 8/10 – A fantastic ground for this level!! The stand is what makes it for me although they have another at the other side! This ground is fit for Step 4 possibly 3 in my opinion!!
- Expense: 10/10 – Today was for a good cause!! Worth every penny!!
- Overall Experience: 10/10 – A great game, a good day with the Merry Miller and a very friendly atmosphere at the game made it for me today!! A good cause is why we all came together today!! Well done everyone!
