Huntingdon Town

Jubilee Park, home of Huntingdon Town based in the Huntingdonshire district of Cambridgeshire and play their trade in Step 6 of the Non League Pyramid in the Spartan South Midlands Football League Division One. Nicknamed the “Hunters” as it’s in the name “Huntingdon”.

Huntingdonshire being it’s own county up until the 1960s but now a part of Cambridgeshire but still a place I have been yet to visit so what better time than to visit Huntingdon Town who face Ampthill Town on a rare Thursday night!

Straight down the A1 and into the ground with about 3 minutes to kick off so better get in there! £8 to get in here! Good! Out come the teams to the pouring rain, which team will slide to victory tonight?

Kick Off! 6 minutes in and Huntingdon play down the right, he gets into the box and plays it across to Simon O’Brien… Who finds the bottom corner!! A great start for Huntingdon! 1-0!

20th minute and the Huntingdon keeper plays it out from his own box… Uh-oh! It’s gone straight to the Ampthill striker who has shot first time… Didn’t get hold of it and the keeper collects. Big chance there!

1 minute later and Ampthill play the ball long and Ampthill’s number 3 takes it brilliantly, he turns on to his left and shoots from just outside the box… And finishes!! Brilliant finish! 1-1!

33 minutes now and Huntingdon have it on the right, it’s played across and Kass Rajani will get there to shoot… And it’s gone in! A deflection on the way in I think but Huntingdon have the lead again! 2-1!

1 minute later and Ampthill have it on the left, it’s crossed in from deep and it’s a free header for Drew Roberts… AND IT’S 2-2!! What a game this is proving to be!

The game goes on and the rain keeps on coming, Splish Splash Splosh galore but at half time the score remains 2-2.

Second half, 57th minute and Ampthill have a corner, it’s floated in… Ampthill win the header… And it’s turned in! Grossi with the finish and Ampthill lead for the first time in the game! 2-3!

Ampthill are really starting to take charge of this game now and are mounting pressure on the Huntingdon goal.

A half of little opportunity and dominated by the poor conditions ends in victory for Ampthill!

FT: Huntingdon Town 2-3 Ampthill Town

Ratings

  • Atmosphere: 1/10 – Dead unfortunately…
  • The Ground: 4/10 – Quite basic and in the middle of nowhere sadly but a bit modern at the same time. It could do with some more stands I think.
  • Expense: 10/10 – £8 and a free tea or coffee! I’ll take that!
  • Overall Experience: 7/10 – A good first half in particular with plenty of goals! Nothing else to report sadly.

22/40
